Yuki Tsunoda might be swapping the roar of Formula 1 engines for the high-speed thrills of IndyCar, according to fresh reports that have fans buzzing. The axed Red Bull star, who lost his seat after a rocky 2025 season, is reportedly eyeing a major career shift that could put him back in the driver’s seat full-time.
The Japanese driver first burst onto the F1 scene in 2021 with AlphaTauri, now known as Racing Bulls, climbing through Red Bull’s junior ranks during their Honda partnership. He stayed loyal to the team until early 2025, when Red Bull boss Christian Horner decided to promote him to the senior squad alongside Max Verstappen after just two races.
But Tsunoda’s time at the top was short-lived. He managed to score points in only seven grands prix as a Red Bull driver, and the team ultimately replaced him with Isack Hadjar ahead of the 2026 season. Now, he serves as a test and reserve driver for both Red Bull teams, but sources claim he’s ready for a full-time comeback.
According to Motorsport. com, Tsunoda is now in the mix for the No. 66 car at Meyer Shank Racing in IndyCar.
That team runs on Honda engines, and the seat is set to open up in 2027 when current driver Marcus Armstrong moves to the No. 60 car, replacing Felix Rosenqvist, who has reportedly signed a multi-year deal with McLaren’s IndyCar squad.
This isn’t the first time Tsunoda has been linked to a return to racing. Rumors have swirled about a possible F1 comeback with Haas, but nothing has materialized yet. If the IndyCar move happens, it could give him the fresh start he needs to prove his skills on a different stage.
