Lando Norris just dropped a brutally honest truth bomb about Formula 1, and it’s already sparking major debate among fans. The reigning champion didn’t hold back when he admitted the sport has become more about making money than putting on a great race.
The McLaren driver rolled into 2026 as the defending title holder, but things haven’t gone smoothly under the new regulations. His team is struggling as a Mercedes customer squad, and the revamped chassis and power unit rules have made for a rocky start.
Norris isn’t alone in his frustration. Four-time champ Max Verstappen and Sky Sports legend Martin Brundle have also voiced concerns about the direction F1 is taking. The increased focus on electrification has left drivers and traditional fans feeling disconnected from what made the sport thrilling.
Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Norris opened up about the tension between business and competition. “It’s a business. Everyone wants to make money, so changes were needed for Audi and Cadillac to join,” he said.
“But F1 has gone too heavily led by the fact it’s a business, not how to make the sport the best possible. That’s not how a sport should be run.”
The 26-year-old champion has already hinted he might not stick around as long as Lewis Hamilton. Earlier this year, he admitted, “I want kids and I want out of here.” With his growing frustration over the sport’s direction, could his exit come even sooner than fans expect?
