Savannah Guthrie is pleading with the public in an emotional new plea, offering a $1 million reward from her own family to find her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. The “Today” show star tearfully acknowledged the 84-year-old may no longer be alive.
The Guthrie family is now putting up the massive reward for any information that leads to Nancy’s return. The elderly woman was taken from her Tucson home in the middle of the night on January 31, with doorbell camera footage showing a masked man approaching the residence around 2 a. m.
on February 1. She was reported missing later that day, and a desperate search has been ongoing.
In a video posted Tuesday morning, a visibly emotional Savannah, 54, described the “agony” of not knowing where her mother is. She begged anyone with information to come forward, saying, “Someone out there knows something that can bring her home.”
While the family “still believe(s) in a miracle,” Savannah acknowledged they also know Nancy “may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves.” She added, “If this is what is to be, then we will accept it.”
The “Today” anchor also announced the family will donate $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to support other families facing similar ordeals.
The FBI has described the suspect as a male of average build, about 5’9″ to 5’10”, wearing a ski mask, gloves, a holster, and an Ozark Trail Hiker Backpack. The agency has doubled its reward to $100,000, with an additional $100,000 from an anonymous donor through 88-CRIME and $2,500 from the tip line.
