Family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez Speaks Out as d4vd Faces Murder Charges

The family of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez is demanding justice after singer d4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, was charged with her murder.

In a statement released through their attorney, Celeste’s parents thanked investigators and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for pursuing the case while expressing gratitude to the Lake Elsinore community for its support.

They described Celeste as a joyful teenager who loved singing, dancing, and spending Friday movie nights with her family. “We love her very much and miss her deeply,” they said. “All we want is justice for Celeste.”

Authorities say Celeste’s remains were discovered inside the trunk of an impounded Tesla in Hollywood in September 2025. Investigators believe she had been dead for weeks before the vehicle was towed, according to LAPD officials.

Burke was arrested on April 16 and later charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, including allegations that the killing was committed for financial gain and to silence a potential witness. Prosecutors have indicated those allegations could make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

At his arraignment on April 20, Burke pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. His defense team requested a preliminary hearing, which the court approved.

The family had originally planned to address the court during Burke’s first appearance but chose not to after authorities responded to a bomb threat that raised safety concerns. Despite the disruption, they said their focus remains unchanged: seeking justice for Celeste and honoring her memory.
