The Sussex family is reportedly planning to stay at Althorp – the childhood home and final resting place of Diana – during their first return to England in four years.

The trip has been long planned, coinciding with Harry’s participation in events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, taking place in Birmingham from July 10th to 17th next year.
This timing has drawn attention to Althorp estate in Northamptonshire, about an hour’s drive from Birmingham. Althorp’s website announced the estate would be closed to visitors on July 10th and 11th, fueling speculation that Harry and his family might visit or even stay there.
Althhorp is the childhood home and final resting place of the late Princess Diana. Harry’s trip, coming shortly after his mother’s birthday (July 1st), is considered particularly significant for the Sussex family. Harry’s youngest daughter also bears the middle name Diana in memory of her grandmother.

Previously, Harry stayed at Althorp, now owned by his older brother, Earl Charles Spencer, on several trips back to England. He also stayed there in August 2024 when he returned for the funeral of his uncle-in-law, Robert Fellowes.
People reports that King Charles III had offered his youngest son and his family a place to stay at a royal estate during their upcoming visit, but has not yet received a response. Harry had previously been invited to stay at Buckingham Palace but declined.

Regardless of the location, security remains a major concern. After stepping down from their roles as senior members of the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan no longer enjoy state-funded protection. Harry has repeatedly sued to regain this right but without success.
There are currently no official plans for a meeting between Harry and King Charles III during the trip. However, father and son had a private 55-minute meeting at the King’s residence in London in September 2025, marking their first face-to-face reunion in 19 months.

The Sussex family has only brought Archie and Lilibet back to England once, for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The two children did not appear at public events at that time.
In his memoir, *Spare*, published in 2023, Harry recounts taking Meghan to visit his mother’s grave for the first time in 2022, on the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. “Finally, I brought my dream woman back to see her mother,” Harry wrote. He said he placed flowers on his mother’s grave, while Meghan knelt beside the memorial stone and prayed for wisdom and direction for the future.
According to Harry, England remains home and an important part of Archie and Lilibet’s legacy. The Duke of Sussex has said he wants his children to feel that this is their home, but that can only happen if the family is assured of their safety each time they return.
