Macklemore credits his family, particularly his three kids, Sloane, 11, Colette, 8, and Hugo, 4, with helping to keep him motivated in his sobriety journey.
The rapper, who was born Benjamin Haggerty, shares his young children with his wife Tricia Davis. They welcomed their first child together, daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, in May 2015 and got married one month later.
In March 2018, Macklemore and Davis became a family of four with the birth of their second daughter, Colette Koala Haggerty. Their family grew once again in July 2021 when their son, Hugo Jack Haggerty, was born.
Over the years, the Grammy winner has frequently spoken about his love of fatherhood. “It is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever known, it’s the thing that I’m most proud of,” he told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth News in June 2023. “My greatest achievement.”
Being a dad has also helped inspire him, both with his music and with his lifelong recovery efforts. In January 2022, the “Thrift Shop” singer, who has struggled with addiction and substance abuse since his early teens, opened up to PEOPLE about going through a relapse during the pandemic. “It was really painful for myself and for the people who loved me. I stopped doing the work.”
He went on to explain that while his children have been influential in his recovery, ultimately, they aren’t responsible for fixing him.
“I remember being like, ‘I don’t ever want my kids to see me loaded,’ ” he said about learning he was going to become a father for the first time. “There was this relief like, ‘Okay, now I can stay clean for someone else.’ But that’s not how this disease works. My kids can’t keep me clean. I have to do the work.”
In June 2025, Macklemore’s Seattle home was reportedly robbed while his children were sleeping inside. According to a police report shared with PEOPLE by the Seattle Police Department, the Grammy winner’s nanny escaped the residence to call police. The two suspects allegedly “ransacked the residence” and stole “thousands of dollars of items,” police said in a statement.
Here’s everything to know about Macklemore’s three kids, Sloane, Colette and Hugo.

Macklemore and Davis welcomed their first daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, on May 29, 2015.
The musician announced the news in August along with the release of a new single, “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song)” with Ryan Lewis and Ed Sheeran, in an emotional statement on Facebook.
“I wish that I could say that I was in a ‘better place’ when I found out the news,” he wrote, referring to the night he learned Davis was expecting. “I was scared,” he admitted, sharing that he was afraid of failure, in terms of creating new music, staying sober and being ready to be a dad.
He ended the lengthy note with, “Our daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty was born 2 months ago on May 29th. There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life. This song is for her.”
Fatherhood inspired Macklemore to take better care of himself, both mentally and physically. In an August 2015 interview with MTV News, the rapper, who had previously revealed that he suffered a drug relapse in 2014, opened up about how becoming a dad pushed him to prioritize his recovery again.
“It was a wakeup call that I desperately needed,” he said. “I got sober and I got happy again. Music started to flow and with Tricia, I could really be there for her throughout the pregnancy.”

During a December 2016 interview with PEOPLE, the “Same Love” spoke about his desire to give baby Sloane plenty of fresh air. “My wife loves the outdoors, she loves hiking and just getting outside and away from screens whether that be the phone or the computer or the television,” he said. “I don’t want to raise my daughter in a world where [screen time] is her norm.”
Aside from their love of outdoor adventures, Macklemore has an incredibly strong bond with his older daughter. Not only has Sloane been to AA meetings with him, she’s already worked with him professionally. In February 2023, he surprised the then-7-year-old by asking her to direct the music video for his song, “No Bad Days,” sharing the sweet moment on Instagram.
In an interview with Esquire that March, he opened up about the experience. “I love working with Sloane. Just seeing her mind work and giving her the autonomy to make decisions as a seven-year-old. And they’re great decisions,” he said.
“This will be a moment that we’re able to look back on for the rest of our lives. It was something special. The actual creation process is not our issue — our issue is the attachment to the outcome,” he explained. “As long as I’m working with my daughter, it’s not about views, it’s not about likes, it’s not about the algorithm. In fact, we don’t even pay attention to that. What we pay attention to is the process of making the best piece of art.”
Colette “Coco” Koala Haggerty, 8

On March 16, 2018, Macklemore and Davis welcomed baby number two, daughter Colette Koala Haggerty, whom they affectionately refer to as “Coco.”
The following month, the rapper surprised fans when he announced her birth during an interview on the radio show, Spin 1038, in Ireland. When hosts Nathan O’Reilly and Nick Karkazis asked what he did to celebrate the Irish holiday, he replied, “I spent it in the hospital. With my brand new daughter who was born right before St. Patrick’s Day.”
In May, Macklemore shared a more formal birth announcement and revealed Coco’s name publicly with a heartfelt Mother’s Day tribute to Davis on Instagram.
“Colette Koala Haggerty was born on March 16th 2018,” he wrote alongside a home video of Davis in the hospital. “To witness the strength, endurance and love it takes to become a mother is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. Happy Mother’s Day to the women that give us life. I love you @baba_g.”
Almost immediately following Coco’s birth, Macklemore was back on the road performing in front of thousands of fans. In an interview with Fault Magazine that April, he opened up dad guilt and learning to balance work and fatherhood.
“It’s strange to spend eight days with my newborn and then to leave and go on tour. It’s tough to look at pictures, and feel like I’m missing something,” he said. “I don’t even know my baby yet. I’ve been away from her more than I’ve been there and it’s hard, but FaceTime is a beautiful thing in the meantime.”
He went on to reveal that since they hadn’t planned on having a second baby, they were learning to adjust to being a family of four. “My baby wasn’t planned so we’re adjusting,” he shared. “I am looking forward to eventually slowing down and just honing in on family life and being a dad for a good while.”

It didn’t take long for Macklemore to adjust to being a girl-dad twice over. “Sloane Ava Simone and Colette Koala. My daughters. I have never known a love like this,” he wrote in a June 2018 Instagram post. “It moves me to tears to think about the joy, fulfillment and purpose you bring to my life. I’m so lucky to be your dad.”
Being with his family is incredibly important to the rapper, and his daughters have often traveled with him to watch him perform. “Colette has been to some shows. Now that she’s 1, she’s starting to come more,” he told PEOPLE in March 2019. “It’s a really fun experience getting to share that with them.”
He went on to share that his favorite part about fatherhood is watching his kids learn and grow. “You watch them adapt to the world and learn who they are and develop this personality that is so uniquely them,” he said.
“Of course, my kids are a product of their environment and us and our ancestors, but they’re also their own individuals,” he continued. “For them to discover that in front of you is just a magical experience.”
Hugo Jack Haggerty, 4

Macklemore’s third child, and only son, Hugo Jack Haggerty, was born on July 30, 2021. That September, the couple announced the news to the world.
“Six weeks ago in the shadow of the Buck Moon 🌝 🦌 this beautiful human came into our lives,” Davis wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her and her newborn. “He arrived rooted and calm, mostly just observing the two whirling dervishes around him.”
When it comes to music, Hugo appears to take after his famous dad. “He’s got this bop to him. It’s on beat, goes back and forth, so he’s riding with me,” Macklemore told Esquire in March 2023.
The rapper has also shared several videos of his son’s DJ skills on social media. In one sweet Instagram video, Hugo learned how to play the drum and the flute before singing and recording a silly song with his dad.
While Macklemore isn’t shy about sharing cute photos and videos of his kids online, he’s also cognizant about the potential impact of social media on his little ones, particularly when it comes to letting them have their own accounts.
“It’s not about shielding my kids from social media, but I’m definitely going to hold off as long as possible,” he told Hunger Magazine in March 2023.
Still, rather than hide them from the online world, he stressed the importance of having honest conversations with them. “I want to be able to talk to my kids about external validation and comparison. ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’: that is a quote that my kids should know.”
