Lainey Wilson’s Father-Daughter Dance Left Fans in Tears — The Song Choice Meant More Than Anyone Knew

Lainey Wilson’s wedding to former NFL star Devlin “Duck” Hodges was filled with unforgettable moments. But none hit fans harder than the father-daughter dance she shared with her dad, Brian Wilson.

Over Father’s Day weekend, the country superstar posted a video from her May wedding, showing her and her father slowly dancing to “Butterfly Kisses,” the classic song about a little girl growing up and her father giving her away on her wedding day. The emotional clip instantly went viral, but what truly broke fans’ hearts was the story behind the song.

“I sang Butterfly Kisses at my Kindergarten graduation so of course it had to be my father daughter dance at the wedding,” Lainey wrote on Instagram. “Happy Father’s Day, Deddy.”

Suddenly, the moment became so much more than a wedding tradition.

It was a full-circle moment.

The same little girl who sang the song in 1998 was now dancing to it as a bride, holding hands with the man who had been beside her through every chapter of her life.

And for the Wilson family, that moment carried even deeper meaning.

In 2022, Brian Wilson nearly died after suffering a rare fungal infection that spread to his face and brain. He underwent multiple surgeries, lost his left eye, and suffered a stroke during the ordeal. At one point, Lainey admitted she considered stepping away from her role on Yellowstone to be with him. But Brian refused to let her quit.

“He told me to keep going,” she said at the time.

Against all odds, he recovered.

That’s why seeing Brian walk his daughter down the aisle this year felt almost miraculous.

The ceremony itself looked like something out of a movie. Held at The Ruskin in Dickson, Tennessee, Lainey arrived in a white horse-drawn carriage before her father escorted her down a cobblestone aisle beside a waterfall. She later recalled hearing birds sing and water trickle as she approached Duck at the altar.

“I have never seen Duck smile as big as he did then,” she said.

But it was the reception that delivered the evening’s most emotional scene.

As Butterfly Kisses played, father and daughter danced together while guests watched quietly, many wiping away tears. The lyrics about a father watching his daughter grow up suddenly felt incredibly real.

And fans online had the same reaction:

Grab the tissues. 😭

After everything Brian Wilson endured over the last few years, many called the dance “the most beautiful moment” of Lainey’s wedding and proof that sometimes life gives you a second chance to witness milestones you thought you might miss.

For Lainey, the song wasn’t just about becoming a wife.

It was about honoring the man who taught her to dream, encouraged her when she wanted to give up, and fought his way back to see this moment.

And judging by the tears in the room…

Not a single person forgot it.
