After a three-year hiatus from the octagon, Shane Burgos is ready to make his long-awaited return to mixed martial arts. The 35-year-old fighter, who has built a reputation for his exciting bouts, shared his comeback news on social media, expressing both relief and eagerness to re-enter the fight scene.

Burgos, who holds a professional record of 16 wins and 5 losses, acknowledged the toll that the rigorous demands of training and weight management took on him. “I needed that break from fighting,” he wrote. “The weight cuts, the training camps, everything that goes into it burned me out. Thatโ€™s in the past though. Iโ€™ve never stopped working. I need to be back in that fire again. I miss it.”

The New Yorker kicked off his professional journey with an impressive 10-0 record, including a strong start in the UFC where he won his first three fights. Although he didn’t compete at the UFC’s historic debut in New York at Madison Square Garden, he quickly made a name for himself in subsequent events across the state, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record in New York venues.

During his nearly six-year tenure in the UFC, Burgos showcased his skills with an 8-3 record, earning four Fight of the Night bonuses along the way. Interestingly, he parted ways with the promotion on a high note, riding a two-fight winning streak before opting to sign with the PFL as a free agent. Notably, all three of his losses in the UFC were awarded Fight of the Night honors, a testament to his thrilling fighting style.

After transitioning to the lightweight division in the PFL, Burgos faced challenges in the 2023 season. Although he made it to the playoffs, he was eliminated in the semifinals by Clay Collard, finishing his PFL run with a 1-2 record.

As he looks ahead to his next chapter, Burgos remains without a promotional home, but his passion for the sport is undeniable. “Excited for whateverโ€™s next,” he shared, leaving fans curious about where he might land next. What awaits Shane Burgos in this new phase of his career?
