Jinger Duggar’s Faith Journey Continues to Spark Debate Among Critics and Supporters

Jinger Duggar Vuolo has been open about leaving the religious movement in which she was raised, but some online critics argue that her current church shares similarities with the one she left behind.

Years after distancing herself from the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), Jinger continues to discuss her spiritual journey publicly through books, interviews, and podcasts. While many supporters view her departure from IBLP as a significant personal step, others believe her new church remains rooted in conservative theology that raises similar concerns.

Jinger has repeatedly explained that she no longer follows the teachings of IBLP, the organization founded by Bill Gothard that heavily influenced the Duggar family’s beliefs during their years on reality television.

In recent years, she has spoken about reevaluating many of the doctrines she learned growing up, describing that process as an important part of her personal faith journey.

However, Jinger did not abandon Christianity. Instead, she and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, became members of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, where Jeremy has studied and served in ministry.

Although Jinger has publicly rejected IBLP’s teachings, discussions on Reddit suggest some critics remain skeptical of the church she now attends.

Several commenters argued that Grace Community Church promotes strict interpretations of marriage, gender roles, and church leadership that they believe resemble aspects of the environment Jinger left behind.

Those comments reflect opinions expressed online and do not represent findings by a court regarding the church’s overall practices.

Others argue that comparing the two organizations oversimplifies Jinger’s religious journey.

While both IBLP and Grace Community Church embrace conservative evangelical beliefs, supporters note that they differ in leadership structure, theology, and organizational history.

Grace Community Church is associated with Reformed theology and Calvinist doctrine, whereas IBLP centered on Bill Gothard’s unique teachings and lifestyle principles that extended far beyond traditional church practices.

Jinger herself has consistently described her decision as moving away from teachings she believes were unbiblical rather than walking away from Christianity altogether.

Interest in the Duggar family’s religious background has remained strong since the cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On.

The IBLP has faced years of criticism over its teachings and culture, particularly following sexual misconduct allegations against founder Bill Gothard, who resigned from the organization in 2014. Gothard has denied wrongdoing.

As a result, discussions about the Duggar family’s faith continue to generate strong opinions online. For some observers, Jinger represents a story of gradual change and personal growth. For others, her current church remains a subject of ongoing debate, illustrating how conversations about religion within the Duggar family continue long after their reality television career ended.
