In a heartbreaking twist to a disturbing story, Elizabeth Siders, the mother of 16 children rescued from a nightmarish living situation in Ohio, previously experienced the tragic loss of conjoined twins shortly after their birth. This revelation adds another layer of complexity to a case that has shocked the nation.
State records reveal that Elizabeth, 33, gave birth to twin daughters, Bailey Lee and Faith Lee Siders, on November 20, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Tragically, the twins were born at just 24 weeks gestation and suffered from a condition known as thoracopagus, where their bodies were fused at the chest and face. They passed away just hours after their birth due to natural causes.
This information emerged just days after Elizabeth and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., were arrested alongside their parents, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, at their home in Vinton County. Authorities discovered the couple’s 16 children, ranging in age from 1 to 18, living in appalling conditions within a cramped room filled with human waste.
The situation has raised numerous questions, particularly regarding the familial relationships among the children. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described the case as an “intra-family” situation, leaving some uncertainty about the parental status of both Elizabeth and Gary Jr.
Reports indicate that the children had been confined to this single room for at least four years, living in conditions described by officials as “deplorable” and “third-world.” Many of the children had never attended school and were found to have severe communication difficulties; some reportedly could not speak at all. The eldest child, an 18-year-old girl, is said to be developmentally disabled and unable to write her own name.
After their rescue, the children were taken to various hospitals across Ohio, with some in serious condition. At least two were airlifted to trauma centers, and one required intubation, highlighting the urgent need for medical care.

Ronnie Fletcher, the children’s uncle, revealed that he and his wife were unaware of the full extent of the family’s circumstances until news of the arrests broke. They believed there were around ten children, not the staggering total of 16.
Fletcher reflected on Elizabeth’s early marriage to Gary Jr. when she was just 15, suggesting that she sought refuge in the Siders’ home due to a troubled upbringing. The couple’s first child was born just two months after their wedding.
Court documents list the ages of the other children as 16, 15, 14, 13, 11, 10, 8, 6, and 5, along with sets of twins aged 4, 2, and 1.
The four individuals charged in this case have pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of child endangerment, with bail set at $300,000 each. They waived their preliminary hearings, and if convicted, could face up to 192 years in prison.
