Max Verstappen has already conquered Formula 1, but now the four-time world champion is setting his sights on an entirely new kind of racing bucket list. The Red Bull superstar recently opened up about his dream races beyond F1, and one name keeps popping up: Fernando Alonso.
After taking part in the Nürburgring 24 Hours earlier this year, Verstappen is hungry for more endurance challenges. In a candid chat with BBC Sport, he admitted that he’s been talking with Alonso about possibly teaming up for the most iconic endurance race on the planet—the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Verstappen didn’t hold back when asked about a potential partnership with the two-time Le Mans winner. He pointed out that Alonso, at 45, is still flying on the track, and that his experience could be a huge asset. But the Dutch driver made it clear that any such move would have to be on his own terms, with a real shot at winning.
He also revealed why he’s committed to staying in F1 until 2030, despite his frustrations with the current cars. Verstappen said he’s hoping the sport will improve, and that his love for competition keeps him going, even when the driving itself isn’t thrilling him right now.
So, with Alonso reportedly open to the idea, could we actually see Verstappen and the Spanish legend sharing a Hypercar at Le Mans in the next few years?
