Aston Martin F1 just dropped a major hint about their comeback, and fans are going to want to pay close attention. The team’s chief technical officer, Enrico Cardile, has revealed that the final version of the AMR26 is almost ready to hit the track.
After a brutal first half of the season that left them near the bottom of the standings, Aston Martin finally found some speed in Hungary. That upgrade package, combined with Adrian Newey’s influence, gave the team a much-needed boost.
More tweaks followed in Zandvoort, including a new power unit from Honda. While there are still some driveability kinks to work out, the results are already showing. Fernando Alonso grabbed ninth place and two points, doubling the team’s total for the entire year.
Aston Martin now sits on three points in tenth place, but the momentum is real. Williams is just ahead in ninth, and the team has them in their sights.
Cardile confirmed that the last planned aero updates have already been made. But the big news is coming in Baku later this month. That’s when the team plans to complete a major weight-saving program on the car.
“From Baku onwards, we’ll essentially be running the final version of the car for the rest of the season,” Cardile said.
He described the weight reduction as a “major achievement” that will dramatically improve lap time. The team is aiming to get “very, very close to the weight limit” by the time they hit the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
