I caught my wife cheating, and when I tried to end our marriage the right way, she turned herself into the victim. Then she threatened me, poisoned our kids against me, and made me out to be the bad guy to everyone we knew. So I did what I had to do. I leaked the evidence to her family, her friends, and her employer.

And I watched her world collapse. I’m 47, married to Eliza, 43, for 12 years. We have two kids, nine and six. Our life was stable, normal, boring even in a good way.
We both worked, the kids went to good schools, we took a yearly vacation. Nothing fancy, but it was ours. A year ago, Eliza got a new job as a pharma sales rep. More money, bigger commission, a step up.
I was happy for her. I thought it was a positive change. It wasn’t. Her new role came with new clients, new routines, more hours.
At first she’d vent about her managers and colleagues, and I’d listen like a good husband. But with time she went quiet. She stopped sharing. She came home late, tired, barely talking to me or the kids.
She always had a reason—meetings, conferences, launches. I wanted to trust her. I really did. But trust doesn’t hold up against cold facts.
Our bedroom life dried up. She was always too tired or not in the mood. I knew something was off. The signs were everywhere, only a fool would have missed them.
On a Sunday, she got ready for work. That was the third Sunday that month. I made up my mind. I followed her car, keeping my distance.
Instead of the office, she pulled into a residential neighborhood and parked in front of a house. A doctor’s house. My worst fear came true. I watched her go inside.
She stayed for hours. I wanted to knock on the door. I wanted to demand answers. But even in that vulnerable moment, I knew she’d use it against me.
If I stormed in, she’d dismiss it as a work meeting. I needed solid evidence. I was already sure I was leaving her, and divorce would mean a custody battle. The law bends toward women.
Any wrong move could turn the tables on me. So I waited. I controlled my impulses. When she came out, she was wrapped in his arms.
He walked her to her car and kissed her. I recorded it. Over the next few days, I tracked her movements. I watched her routine.
Most doctors she visited during work hours. But a few she visited after hours, at their homes. Twice I saw her go to a hotel with one of them. Her demeanor shifted with them.
She lingered too long at doors, held on to them, kissed them goodbye on the lips. Not a friendly peck. A real kiss. I recorded every bit.
I documented everything. Even a blind man could see it wasn’t about work. On the third day, when she came home, I confronted her. I didn’t raise my voice.
I didn’t yell. I just laid it all out. The facts. The evidence.
I wanted her to admit it. I wanted us to close the chapter. Instead, she turned it around on me. “How dare you spy on me like this?
That’s an invasion of my privacy! ” she screamed. I was dumbstruck. As if I was the one who crossed the line.
As if her cheating was my fault because I caught her. I took a deep breath. “Look, I don’t want to play this mind game. I caught you cheating, and I can’t forgive you or live like nothing happened.
I want a divorce. That’s final. We split the savings, we have joint custody. You can keep the house so the kids are minimally affected.
I don’t want anything messy. ”
She scoffed. “You’re overreacting. You don’t understand my job.
Sometimes being close to doctors is just part of it. They’re old men. Sometimes they get a little friendly. There’s nothing to worry about.
”
“If your job requires you to sleep with these old men,and you’re okay with that,” I said, “then that says everything I need to know. I didn’t sign up for that. ”
She kept twisting thenarrative, downplaying what she did, making herself the victim. I was done.
I told her the decision was made, and it would be better if she cooperated. She wasn’t ready to accept it. That wasn’t my problem anymore. I moved into the spare room that night.
The next morning, I put my lawyer on speed dial and started the legal process. The hardest part was our kids. She used them as her last shield, her last weapon. She begged me to reconsider for their sake.
I won’t lie. This part hurt. Every time I looked into their eyes, I wondered if I was breaking their world apart. But I also knew staying in that house with that woman would do them more harm than good.
They deserved a father who wasn’t drowning in bitterness. It’s been a week. I was telling her to sit and talk to the children, to prepare them. But she was stalling, thinking I’d change my mind.
I asked the community for advice on how to break the news to the kids. People told me to keep it simple and age-appropriate. They don’t need to know details. Just that both parents still love them, and things will be different but okay.
They told me to stay strong, and not let her guilt-trip sway me. Better to be the dad who stood up for himself than the one getting walked all over. Update one. Thanks for the support.
Eliza was still stalling the discussion with the kids. She said she needed time to mentally prepare. Then there was the younger one’s birthday. She didn’t want to ruin it.
She thought if she kept throwing guilt my way, kept playing the devastated wife, I’d break and crumble and agree to reconcile. She failed to see I wasn’t the same man anymore. The more she clung, the more it annoyed me. I made an appointment with a child counselor, the day after the birthday.
I told Eliza that if she didn’t come, I’d take the kids and handle it alone. She had no choice but to suck it up. She tagged along, still trying to play the victim, sobbing as if this was all so hard for her. The counselor helped us frame the conversation.
She started by reassuring them that no matter what, they were loved deeply by both of us. With careful words, we explained that their mother and I would no longer be together as a couple. But we would always be their parents. The younger one was clueless and confused.
The elder one started sobbing immediately. “So we don’t live together no more? ” he cried. “No more family vacations?
No more gaming evenings? ”
It broke my heart. I wished I could forget everything and live as a family. But that was impossible.
The only way out was to accept the harsh truth. The younger one joined his brother, crying that he didn’t want to live apart from us either. He juggled between clutching my arms and hugging his mother. He wanted both of us.
Eliza sobbed harder at that, pleading in front of them. “Can we not do this? Please, for them! Look at them!
”
The counselor took her outside. Maybe knocked some sense into her. To not villainize me in front of the kids. She was trying to make me the bad guy who broke the house.
I took both kids in my lap and assured them it would be different. We would still do all those things, just in a new way. We’re still a family, just not in the same house anymore. The counselor guided us in reinforcing that this wasn’t their fault.
That as parents, we loved them so much. This decision wasn’t because of them. It doesn’t change how much we care. We assured them they would have two homes, and we would both be involved in their lives as much as ever.
It wasn’t easy at all. That’s the most difficult thing about divorce. People who are married with kids, please don’t f— it up for the kids’ sake. Don’t indulge in something that is a deal breaker for your partner.
Because the kids suffer a lot. I’m not saying stay in a toxic broken marriage. I’m requesting you to be loyal and honest, so you don’t put yourself and your partner in a position where divorce is the only option. After the session, I took both kids to their favorite ice cream place.
They were sulking. Meanwhile, I set up a place for myself. I started moving my stuff there. The kids were sad, but I involved them in packing and moving so they didn’t feel alienated.
I didn’t move out immediately. I gave them time to process. They knew they could stay with me whenever they wanted. This new place was their second home.
Despite everything, the final showdown wasn’t easy. The kids broke down when I left the last set of bags. They kept calling me, asking to be picked up or requesting me to stay. I obliged a few times.
Then I set a boundary. I could not stay in that house anymore. It’s been a couple of months. The waiting period is over.
The proceedings have officially started. The kids seem to be better. There are a few breakdown sessions. I’ve had them over twice.
The older one wanted to stay overnight, but the younger one needed his mom. So I dropped them back that night. They’re primarily living with their mother in the house. I don’t want them to go through a lot of change.
At least they should be in the same house, so they don’t feel their life has gone upside down. We continue therapy, both separately for the kids, and as a family, to ensure they feel secure and supported. Eliza, on the other hand, still holds hope for reconciliation. Whenever I go to pick up or drop off the children, she tries to slip in guilt.
She says I’m breaking the house, and that the kids are sleepless and anxious because of our divorce. She sends me reals about psychological issues children of broken homes develop. I ignored her for a while, behaved as if she didn’t exist. When it became too much, I told her I’d left communication open because of the kids.
She shouldn’t exploit it. We’re co-parents,nothing more. The sooner she understands this, the better for her. One evening when I went to pick up the kids, she caught me off guard.
Instead of the usual passive-aggressive jabs, she tried a different tactic. It made my blood boil. She stood at the door with a smug expression. “You know, I could fight for full custody,” she said.
I stared at her. “You really want to play that game? ”
She shrugged. “I’m just saying.
Judges favor mothers. If I tell them you’re being erratic, that you’re the one who destroyed the marriage with your trust issues, they’ll believe me. I can say you spied on me. Stalked me.
That’s not a good look,is it? ”
I warned her to stop. She smirked. “What?
I thought you were just talking. ”
She was testing me. Trying to see if I’d lose my temper, say something she could use against me later. But I wasn’t going to give her that satisfaction.
I took a deep breath. “Listen. I don’t want to make this uglier than it has to be. But if you think I’m going to back down because you’re throwing threats my way, you’re mistaken.
I have enough evidence to prove what you did. And I don’t think a judge is going to look kindly on a mother who spent her weekend screwing doctors instead of being with her kids. ”
She didn’t have a response to that. She slammed the door behind me as I walked the kids to my car.
The drive home was quiet. My eldest stared out the window, lost in thought. The young one hummed a song softly to himself. When we reached my apartment,my oldest hesitantly asked.
“Dad? Are you and Mom ever going to fix things? Like Mom claims? ”
It broke my heart to shatter his hope.
But I had to be truthful. “No, buddy. We’re not. Mom is taking time to accept this.
But the fact is,we can’t be together. ”
He was silent for a moment. Then he nodded slowly. “Okay.
”
That was it. No more questions. No more pressing for hope where there was none. He was accepting it.
Just as I had. Some people commented that I’m too weak. I should just ghost her cheating butt. I wish I could do that, just vanish into thin air.
Sadly, I can’t. I have two young kids. I cannot abandon them,no matter how hard it is to see her face. I have to,for my children’s sake.
That’s my decision. I don’t have to explain myself to others. It’s heartbreaking to see your kids struggle with the transition. But you’re doing everything right,OP.
As for your ex throwing custody threats, that was a desperate move. You handled it exactly as you should have. She’s grasping at whatever power she thinks she has left. But the truth is on your side.
Update two. I got what some of you have been asking for. Revenge. I didn’t want to.
But she left me with no choice. And I made her pay for everything. The conversation I mentioned in my last post played in my head on loop. I couldn’t swallow that she was threatening me.
She was the one who messed up,without thinking about our marriage. Even now, when we are divorcing, she refuses to take accountability. Instead, she went malicious. She’s spinning thenarrative, painting herself as the victim, and spreading lies that I was the one ruining the marriage.
She reached out to my friends and family, feeding them lies. According to her,I was a crazy husband who spied on his innocent wife, and decided to divorce her over mere suspicions. She twisted the truth. She said I disapproved of her profession because I was insecure about her success.
As if I woke up one day and thought, you know what, let’s just destroy my family for fun. At first I ignored it. I didn’t feel the need to defend myself. But then I was cornered by my family and friends who had no idea what really happened.
Her parents accused me of being insecure because she was thriving. Even my parents told me I should have seen things with open eyes. People have to be polite in the sales role. I shouldn’t have invaded her privacy.
I was fuming. She played the helpless wronged wife so well. People started doubting me. One evening I went to pick up the kids.
My eldest son wouldn’t even look at me. He was cold and distant. Completely out of character. When I gently asked him what was wrong,he hesitantly mumbled.
“Mom said you don’t love her anymore. She said you’re making us leave her because you’re angry at her job. ”
I felt my blood boil. This woman was now poisoning my children’s minds.
This was the moment I decided I wouldn’t let her get away with it. I collected all the evidence, videos and pictures,in my drive. I shared the link with everyone she had lied to. No long explanations.
I didn’t try to justify myself. I let the evidence speak for itself. She’s going hand in hand with them to a hotel. The doctor’s grabbing her butt, kissing her, touching her inappropriately in public.
She caressed their arms and thighs. If she was so comfortable being that way in front of people, one could only imagine what she did behind closed doors. Her mask fell off instantly. Her parents got silent.
Just a flat “sorry for judging you” from her dad. My parents also apologized for not standing with me. It was satisfying in a way. But also exhausting.
Why did I have to prove myself in the first place? Why did people assume the worst about me before even considering that she might be the one at fault? It didn’t stop there. When everyone turned their backs on her,she tried to bribe and manipulate the children.
Using the money she earned from f—–g the potbellied doctors. I overheard a conversation between my kids while they were playing. My younger son asked, “Do you think Mommy will buy us a new PlayStation? ”
My eldest replied,”Yeah, she said she will.
And also the flying remote chopper, and a new bike. She’s going to get a promotion soon, and then we’ll have more money. She’ll also take us to Disneyland, and on the cruise. ”
They got excited and giggled.
Then the elder one hushed his brother. “Keep it down. Daddy can’t hear this. He can’t go with us.
”
Then the younger one whispered excitedly,”Mom’s the best. Wish Dad could make as much as Mom. The fun would be double. ”
I felt so bitter.
Not jealous of her success. But enraged that she was feeding this to the kids. That I made less than her. She was trying to insinuate that I was lesser.
She destroyed the family for her job,and was now manipulating my children that I couldn’t give them a good life as she did. I wasn’t going to let that happen. She didn’t deserve it after everything she had done. So I emailed the evidence to her HR department.
Obviously, no company wants their employee to sleep with the clients. At least they don’t expect them to be caught and exposed. The company didn’t take it well. They fired her.
She has no clue that it was me who leaked it. Apparently her colleagues were also jealous, because of her undeserved promotion. Eliza thought someone from her team leaked the information. She told her colleagues about how she was bringing sales to the company.
It was unethical. The children were disheartened that her mom couldn’t fulfill all the promises she made. Indeed, she can’t. She broke her marriage vows.
Yes, I know some of you might say that was too far. That I should have just let her deal with her own consequences. But why should she get to move on like nothing happened? Why should she get to climb the success ladder, and use her illicit money against me?
Currently, she has moved back to her cosmetic sales job. I don’t think she likes being parted away from such a huge commission. As for the kids,I know many of you suggested that I fight for full custody. Trust me,I thought about it.
But I don’t feel it’s best for them. They seem to be okay with the arrangement right now. They still have their home and their routines. I don’t want to make them suffer any more than they already have.
If they ever express that they want to stay with me permanently,I will fight for them without hesitation. But I won’t rip them from what little joy they have left just to punish their mother. I’m still going to therapy with them. We’re still adjusting.
It would be a long way before I could say that I and the kids are now stable. You did what you had to do,OP. She played dirty first. And the fact that she lost her job wasn’t some petty revenge.
It was the direct consequence of her own actions. She built her career on unethical behavior. It was only a matter of time before it came crashing down. Stay strong,OP.
You didn’t destroy the family. She did.
