She just said yes to a Formula One superstar, but Carmen Mundt is making one thing crystal clear: she’s not just George Russell’s fiancée. The 28-year-old Spanish entrepreneur has ambitions that reach far beyond the glamour of the F1 paddock.
The Mercedes driver popped the question over the weekend, capping off a six-year love story that started with an unexpected blind date. Fans around the world flooded the couple with congratulations. But for Mundt, this moment is about more than just a ring.
In a candid sit-down with Spanish publication La Razon, Mundt opened up about carving out her own path. Her roots run deep in finance. After studying in London and Geneva, she landed a role in wealth management at Ruffer LLP.
But she eventually walked away from that traditional corporate world, and she says it was a choice she made with intention.
“Leaving the financial world was a deliberate decision,” Mundt told La Razon, explaining that she needed a better work-life balance. “George’s career is incredibly demanding, and from the start, we understood that our life together would require significant adjustments.”
Living with Russell in Monaco, Mundt launched her own skincare brand, Barriers, back in June. And she’s not shy about how tough the entrepreneurial road can be.
“Entrepreneurship is often romanticised,” she said. “Behind every brand lies an enormous responsibility. When you work for a company, decisions and risks are shared.
When you’re an entrepreneur, they fall squarely on your shoulders.”
The challenge, she says, isn’t a single difficult moment but a constant push to grow. Every day means strategic decisions with limited resources and calculated risks.
As for being known as “George Russell’s fiancée”? Mundt wears that title with pride, but she refuses to let it define her. “I carry that label of being the partner of a top athlete with pride,” she said.
“I never felt the need to prove myself to anyone.”
Her bigger mission? Inspiring others to chase every passion they hold. “What truly matters to me is showing future generations that a person can have many facets and pursue all their passions.”
