A GRAPHIC photo of the bloody knife a Massachusetts mother used to harm herself after she killed her three children was revealed on the first day of her murder trial.

Lindsay’s trial began on Monday with opening statements from the defense and prosecution and a testimony from her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy.
During the defense’s opening statements, her lawyer Kevin Reddington showed the courtroom several images from the night of January 24, 2023.
On that night, Lindsay allegedly asked Patrick to go pick up dinner from a restaurant roughly 25 minutes away from their home.
While he was out of the house, she strangled her three kids, five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan.
When Patrick returned home, he found Lindsay had jumped from the second-story window of their bedroom.
He soon discovered his children with the exercise bands still around their necks in the basement while still on the phone with 911.
Reddington shared images of Lindsay in a neck brace, with several other medical equipment pieces surrounding her after she was taken to the hospital in 2023.
He also showed a crime scene image of the bloody knife Lindsay used to cut her wrists and neck before she jumped out of the window.
Several drops of blood surrounded the knife on the white table.
Next to the knife was a mug that read ‘Because Kids,’ which Reddington said was a gift given to Lindsay that she then crushed up pills into on the night of January 24, 2023.
The attorney also pointed out a container of sleep aids and a pillow spray meant to help someone sleep on the table.
“She couldn’t sleep for months,” Reddington said.

Reddington plans on seeking an insanity defense, arguing Lindsay is not criminally responsible for murder because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she allegedly strangled her children.
Patrick believes that Lindsay killed their children because she began “hearing a compelling and unrecognizable singular male voice that told her ‘this is your last chance’ and that she had to ‘take them’ with [her],” according to the wrongful death lawsuit he filed, People reported.
Lindsay remained emotionless during much of the trial’s opening day, but was seen crying as Reddington asked the jury to consider what was going through her mind as she killed her kids.
She was noticeably trembling and wiping away tears when the prosecution gave their opening statements.

Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham began with telling the jury about Cora, Dawson and Callan.
She talked about Cora’s love for princesses, how Dawson was “full of energy” and spoke with a raspy voice, and how Callan was “always smiling with chunky cheeks.”
As the prosecutor laid out details of the fateful night, Lindsay appeared to try and get her breathing under control as she averted her gaze.
Buckingham said Cora, Dawson and Callan were “coldly and efficiently executed,” and argued Lindsay acted intentionally in her opening statements.
“They were strangled, deliberately and meticulously, killed by this defendant on January 24th of 2023,” said the Plymouth County assistant district attorney.
“One by one, she grabbed exercise bands around each one of the kid’s necks and pulled until their little bodies were limp and lifeless.”
