There’s no room for mistakes as the competition continues on “Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro.”

With nine dancers remaining, Episode 3 of the “Dancing With the Stars” spinoff is challenging the contestants with group performances.
“DWTS” pro Britt Stewart joined judges Shirley and Mark Ballas during the Monday, July 27, episode. The dancer helped mentor the contestants as they took on high-intensity routines that they had to learn and master in just hours.
Group performances are key to opening a “DWTS” live show and entertaining the audiences. They also test the individuals on teamwork, taking direction, giving feedback and timing.
So, how did the contestants fare?
What Happened During Episode 3 of ‘DWTS: The Next Pro’
Britt entered the ballroom performing a dynamic group tango that impressed all. Host Robert Irwin then revealed that the dancers’ first challenge would be to re-create Britt’s exact choreography.
Then it was time for rehearsals, where the nine contestants learned the steps and took direction from Britt. Some felt they excelled in group performances, while others faced difficulties being in sync, spacing and picking up the choreography.
However, in one unexpected moment Natalie Jolley was accidentally hit in the eye by Stephani Sosa. Natalie was transported to the hospital to receive medical attention, which meant the group was down by one.

The show had to continue and after just three hours of rehearsals, Britt informed the crew that it was time to perform for the judges. She said that was the amount of time “DWTS” pros had to learn opening numbers and be camera ready.
The performance had its hits and misses, with the judges determining that Tristan Sanders and Nina Mayster were the weakest links. But, they were not on the chopping block just yet. Britt informed them that they would have another chance to prove their skills in the second group challenge.
Given a chance to redeem themselves, Tristan, who became emotional following feedback, and Nina were then chosen to be the team captains in the second challenge. The two had to select who they wanted on their teams to create and perform another group dance. Meanwhile, Natalie was under “medical supervision” and could not participate.
On Nina’s team were Allen Genkin, AJ Pritchard and Adele Zaikman. They had to perform a tango.
Tristan chose Stephani, Selena Hamilton and Erik Linder. They would be performing a paso doble.
Both teams faced their own obstacles during rehearsals and when it was showtime, one group outshined the other.
Tristan’s team was up first, with judges noting that despite their dynamic and powerful opening, they were dancing as individuals and not as a group.
When it came to Nina’s team, Allen fumbled and fell but quickly got up and kept going. Mark did call him out yet applauded his efforts in not letting it affect the rest of the routine. He also praised Nina for letting someone else take the lead after she was told that she tried to take control in past episodes. All three judges agreed that it was visible that they were able to put their egos aside and work together.
Who Was in the Bottom 2?
The group that impressed the judges most due to their synchronicity and teamwork was Nina’s team. They were safe from elimination.
Unfortunately, Tristan’s team was in jeopardy and two dancers were up for elimination. Due to their mistakes, Selena and Tristan were in the bottom two.
Who Got Eliminated on Episode 3 of ‘DWTS: The Next Pro’?
Fortunately, because of Natalie’s injury, she was not medically cleared to continue competing in the show. This meant that she was automatically eliminated and Tristan and Selena were safe for another week.
Natalie returned to the ballroom to say she was “sad and disappointed” that she wouldn’t be able to continue in the competition. She understood that at this time she had to take care of her health.

What Will Happen Next Week?
Eight contestants remain in the competition. The next episode of “DWTS: The Next Pro” will air on Aug. 3.
Guest mentor and “DWTS” champ Jenna Johnson will help the remaining dancers work on their chemistry and bring the heat and passion into their routines. The lowest-scoring pair will then be eliminated.
