Princess Charlotte Could Make a Surprise Final Summer Appearance—but One Question About Prince George Has Royal Fans Holding Their Breath

After joining Prince William and Kate Middleton at the Wimbledon men’s singles final, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were expected to disappear from public view for the remainder of their summer holiday.

But an unexpected change of plans could alter everything.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games begin in Glasgow on July 23. The event was originally scheduled to take place in Victoria, Australia, but those plans collapsed over concerns about rising costs. Glasgow later stepped in as the replacement host, transforming what would have been an exhausting day-long flight into a journey of only a few hours by train for the Wales family.

That makes another appearance from Charlotte more possible than anyone expected.

In 2022, she accompanied her parents to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where they watched swimming, gymnastics and hockey. It was also Charlotte’s first major public outing without either of her brothers—a rare solo experience that felt like a special gift reserved just for her.

Charlotte is known to have a particular love of gymnastics. Prince William once joked that there were “a lot of cartwheels” happening around their home. It would therefore be difficult to imagine her not wanting to return now that the Games are unexpectedly being held on British soil again.

The visit could carry deeper meaning for Kate as well. SportsAid, one of her royal patronages, works closely with Sport England and Commonwealth Games England. In 2022, William, Kate and Charlotte visited SportsAid House, so returning could combine family time with a visible show of support for young athletes.

Yet the biggest question remains: will George join them?

William and Kate have long tried to give each of their children individual experiences. When Charlotte did not attend Wimbledon in 2022, Kate reportedly explained, “It’s George’s treat today.”

Perhaps the Commonwealth Games became Charlotte’s treat.

However, George is approaching a major turning point as he prepares to begin at Eton College and live fully away from home for the first time. A sporting trip with his sister could become one of their final carefree summer memories before the door to childhood closes a little further.

The siblings may support different football clubs, enjoy different sports and move through life at different rhythms.

But amid the roar of the crowd, the public may be hoping for one beautifully simple scene: George and Charlotte standing side by side, cheering together before summer—and their childhood—quietly moves into a new chapter.
