A Texas man is behind bars after allegedly snatching a 15-month-old boy from his own parents’ wedding celebration—then driving off without a car seat while reportedly intoxicated.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as “strange” in a Facebook post Sunday, July 19. Deputies were called just after midnight to a Houston event center where the toddler had been taken by his uncle without the parents’ knowledge or permission, according to Senior Deputy Thomas M. Gilliland.
Surveillance cameras at the venue confirmed what happened. Several family members had been watching the little boy while his parents enjoyed their wedding reception. Around 10:30 p.
m. , the uncle—identified as 29-year-old Michael Brown—allegedly drove away with the child. Authorities say no car seat was used, and Brown was believed to be under the influence.
The frantic parents tried to reach Brown, but his phone went straight to voicemail. When deputies checked his home, he wasn’t there. Homicide detectives stepped in, scouring for any sign of the suspect and the missing toddler.

Hours later, just before 4 a. m. , investigators located Brown and the child parked on the side of the road about 18 miles from the wedding venue.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote that the toddler was found lying on Brown’s chest as the uncle slept.

Both were unharmed. Brown was arrested and charged with kidnapping.
“Thanks to the swift actions of our team, the use of technology, and outstanding investigative work, the toddler was located safely within hours and reunited with his parents,” Gonzalez said, praising the deputies and detectives for their urgency.
