A Los Angeles Police Department detective testified about the gruesome findings inside D4vd’s Tesla during the musician’s preliminary court hearing.

The singer, whose real name is David Burke, is charged with murder, continuous sexual 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 of a child under the age of 14 and unlawful mutilation of human remains in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Detective Joshua Byers with the LAPD’s robbery-homicide unit told a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on July 21 that he was called to a tow yard in Hollywood on Sept. 8, 2025 after the remains of Rivas were found in the front trunk of Burke’s Tesla.

The Tesla had been impounded from a street in the Hollywood Hills three days earlier. “I was expected to find a body in a trunk,” Byers said. “My information was gathered when I arrived on scene.”

Inside the trunk, investigators discovered a black vinyl body bag that was partially unzipped and a garbage bag with blue straps.

Multiple gruesome photos of the crime scene were exhibited on screen during the hearing, showing a garbage bag with limbs inside, a body bag, as well as her bloody head and torso.

Burke showed no visible emotion and stared intently at each photograph, continuing to look at them as they were displayed. He appeared to stare more intensely at a picture showing her right hand, bearing the phrase “Shhh…” on her right index finger.

Prosecutors have alleged that Burke, 21, fatally stabbed the runaway from Lake Elsinore, Calif., on April 23, 2025 —one day after the two got into a lengthy argument over his relationships with other women and several days before the release of his debut album.

He then allegedly dismembered and disposed of her body parts with items he bought online from Amazon and Home Depot, including a shovel, two chainsaws, a body bag and heavy-duty laundry bags.

He also allegedly purchased a blue inflatable pool “to prevent her blood from spilling onto his garage floor” and used the chainsaw and other tools to cut off her limbs, according to a preliminary hearing brief obtained by PEOPLE.

Prosecutors allege Rivas met Burke in January 2022 when she was just 11 years old, and began a sexual relationship in November 2023 when she was 13 and he was 18.

Burke is facing a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or death. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is still decided whether to seek the death penalty.
