A MAN has pleaded not guilty to murdering an innocent mum who was shot dead on a night out.
Shanice Brookes, 30, was found suffering serious gunshot wounds in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on May 25.
Jemele Rhone appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today where he pleaded not guilty to murder.
The 30-year-old also denied wounding another person with intent, and possessing criminal cash.
Rhone, who appeared via videolink, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a handgun.
His co-defendant, Deiryen Dyce, 32, also appeared in court today to enter pleas.
She denied assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of cannabis, cocaine and crack cocaine, possessing criminal property, namely a quantity of cash, and to possessing diamorphine with intent to supply.
A provisional trial date has been set for January 18, 2027.
Shanice was enjoying a night out with friends when she was shot dead outside the One Four One bar.
Tragically, she had been planning to take her son to Arsenal’s victory parade before she was killed.
Shanice was described by police as an “innocent bystander”.
Her cousin Tyler-Jay Reid told Good Morning Britain: “Something like that has now been ripped apart from him.
“She’s so selfless, she’s not even a massive football fan, but she was putting it aside for her son, and she was going to take him to the Emirates.”
Issuing a touching tribute through cops, Shanice’s heartbroken family hailed her as ” truly one of a kind”.
It read: “Shanice had the biggest heart and the kind of energy you could never forget.
“She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and godmother, as well as being an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her.”
Shanice worked for the Sheffield community charity Zest and was about to finish a degree at Sheffield College.
