The image, posted by Elizabeth Siders’ mother on Facebook in 2020 to celebrate her daughter’s birthday, shows a smiling blonde woman whose appearance bears little resemblance to the booking photo released after Siders was arrested earlier this month.
Photo Shared Years Before Investigation
The birthday post was shared in August 2020, when Elizabeth Siders had already given birth to nine children and was expecting her tenth.
At the time, nothing in the family photograph suggested the allegations that would later emerge following a law enforcement operation at the family’s rural home in Hamden, Ohio.
Investigation Led to Discovery of 16 Children
Authorities say deputies responding to an unrelated matter on June 30 discovered 16 children, ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years, living inside the residence.
Investigators allege the children had been confined to a single room and were living in severely unsanitary conditions. Several required immediate medical attention after being removed from the property.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and local officials described the conditions as among the worst they had encountered during their careers.
Four Adults Facing Charges
Elizabeth Siders, her husband Gary Siders II, along with Gary’s parents, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, were each charged with 16 counts of child neglect.
All four have entered not guilty pleas, and prosecutors are preparing to present the case to a grand jury for possible indictment.
Earlier Court Records Raise New Questions
Court records obtained by PEOPLE show that years before the recent arrests, Elizabeth and Gary Siders II had previously faced truancy-related proceedings after six of their children failed to attend school.
That case was ultimately dismissed after authorities were unable to locate the family, adding another layer to investigators’ efforts to understand how the situation remained undetected for so long.

The resurfaced family photograph has generated widespread discussion online, with many expressing disbelief at the contrast between the smiling image from 2020 and the allegations now facing the family.
