Ohio ‘House of Horrors’ Mom Faced Prior Charges in Connection with 6 of Her Children Years Before Recent Arrest

In a chilling turn of events, the mother of 16 children discovered in a horrifying situation in Ohio has a troubling history involving prior charges related to six of her children. Elizabeth Siders, 33, and her husband Gary Siders II are now facing serious allegations after their recent arrest on June 30, 2026.

The couple was previously charged in 2021 with truancy offenses when six of their children failed to attend school at Addaville Elementary, a local institution in Gallipolis. Court documents reveal that the charges were filed on October 19, 2021, after school officials alerted the Siders about their children’s chronic absences, which reportedly went unaddressed.

By late October 2021, authorities attempted to serve the couple with court summonses, but their home was found abandoned. Ultimately, the cases against them were dismissed in January 2022 due to their inability to be located.

Fast forward to their recent arrest, Elizabeth and Gary are now facing 16 counts of child neglect. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described the conditions in which the children were found as appalling, stating they appeared “like almost feral animals.” The couple is currently being held on a $300,000 bond, with Elizabeth reportedly seeking a reduction in hopes of reuniting with her children.

Vinton County officials have expressed concerns about their capacity to care for all 16 children, many of whom are in urgent need of medical attention. According to Wilson, the children were largely confined to a cramped 12-by-12-foot room, and a separate investigation led authorities to the couple’s home.
