New revelations surrounding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie have emerged, raising alarm about her condition following the release of ransom notes believed to be from her abductors. The 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1, and the notes have since captured widespread attention.
According to a report by CBS News, investigators now suspect that the ransom notes sent to various media outlets shortly after Nancy’s kidnapping are authentic. The notes, which originated from the same digital IP address, have led to growing concerns about her well-being. One particularly chilling note suggested that Nancy had died and was “buried in nature,” as reported by ABC News.
The first ransom note, received shortly after her abduction, claimed that Nancy was “safe but scared” and demanded a staggering $4 million in Bitcoin for her return. However, the second note took a darker turn, indicating that she may have already passed away. This note did not specify any payment terms for the return of her body.
In a heartfelt video shared on social media on February 7, Savannah Guthrie addressed the kidnappers directly, pleading for her mother’s safe return. “We received your message and we understand,” she said, her tone shifting to one of desperation. “We beg you now to return our mother to us. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

Confusion arose on Monday when TMZ reported that they had also received ransom notes but did not mention any claims about Nancy’s death. However, the Arizona TV station that received the “buried in nature” note confirmed the alarming details, which had initially been withheld from the public.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Nancy’s fate, the FBI has taken the notes seriously enough to act on them. The second note reportedly contained a disjointed apology regarding her death, further complicating the investigation. Savannah expressed her belief in the authenticity of the notes in a March interview, stating, “I think most of them are not real, but I believe the two notes that we received, that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real.”

The investigation has shifted focus from a straightforward kidnapping to the possibility of homicide, as authorities grapple with the implications of the notes. Meanwhile, TMZ revealed that one individual claiming to have knowledge of the kidnappers suggested that Nancy’s body had been buried in Mexico, offering to disclose the location for a single Bitcoin.
As the search continues nearly five months after Nancy’s disappearance, investigators are left with few leads. The only known detail is that a masked intruder broke into her home on the night she was taken, captured in chilling security footage. What will become of Nancy Guthrie remains a haunting question that lingers in the hearts of many.
