Amy Duggar King is opening up about the unexpected support system that has grown between her and cousin Jill Duggar Dillard as the Duggar family faces another major crisis.
The two women, who were once described as having a more casual family relationship, have become much closer in recent months following the arrest of Joseph Duggar in connection with allegations involving a child sexual abuse case.
In a new interview, Amy revealed that she and Jill have been communicating regularly and leaning on each other during an extremely difficult period.
“Jill and I are really close,” Amy shared, explaining that she feels grateful for the friendship they have built. She described Jill as someone she can connect with on a much deeper level than before.
According to Amy, their conversations have become a source of comfort and reassurance. She said the two have been exchanging messages for weeks, often reminding each other that they are not alone.
Their texts reportedly include messages of encouragement such as, “I love you,” and “We’re here together. We’re gonna get through this.”
Amy explained that their relationship was not always this emotionally open. Growing up, they were close as cousins but rarely talked about serious personal struggles.
“We always knew each other,” Amy said, describing their earlier relationship as more surface-level. She explained that both of them had reasons to be cautious about trusting others within the family.
However, she said that has changed.
Amy emphasized that trust is what has strengthened their bond, saying they understand the importance of protecting private conversations and supporting each other without fear of judgment.
“That’s what makes a friendship so close, a cousinship so close, is that family really relies on each other. Real family,” she said.
The renewed connection comes after Joseph Duggar’s arrest earlier this year in Florida. Authorities accused him of offenses involving a then-9-year-old girl, with allegations connected to an incident that reportedly occurred during a family trip in 2020. Joseph has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
Amy previously spoke about her complicated emotions after hearing the news, saying she felt heartbroken and angry. She also reflected on her childhood relationship with Joseph, describing him as someone she once viewed as kind, funny and easygoing.
“He was this really funny, go-lucky, happy guy,” Amy previously said. She explained that before the arrest, she had not seen or spoken with Joseph for several years following the fallout from the earlier scandal involving his older brother Josh Duggar.
Josh Duggar was convicted in 2021 on federal charges related to child sexual abuse material and was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison. His conviction created a major divide within the Duggar family, with several relatives distancing themselves after years of controversy.
Amy said she believes patterns of secrecy and lack of accountability contributed to repeated scandals surrounding the family.
“I feel like when they grow up around environments where the power is unchecked, and men are elevated and not held accountable, and silence is encouraged and rewarded, it creates the perfect conditions for abuse to happen,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jill Duggar has also been one of the family members who has publicly discussed difficult experiences growing up in the Duggar household. Over the years, she has spoken about setting boundaries and creating distance from certain family dynamics.
Now, Amy says their relationship represents something different — a connection built on honesty, trust and mutual support.
As Joseph’s legal battles continue, Amy and Jill appear to be relying on each other while navigating the emotional impact of another family scandal that has placed the Duggar name back in the spotlight.
