Body of Missing 19-Year-Old Marly Kinney Recovered From Kentucky Lake After Boating Party

The body of missing teenager Marly Kinney has been recovered from a Kentucky lake, days after she disappeared during a boating party with friends, authorities said.
Kinney, 19, of Ashland, was found in Grayson Lake around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Her recovery came five days after she was last seen on a rented pontoon boat with a group of at least 10 friends.
The case remains under investigation.

Teen Disappeared After Going Overboard
Authorities said Kinney was last seen around 4 p.m. on Wednesday after she went overboard from the pontoon boat to use the bathroom.
Investigators said her friends did not initially realize she was missing.
Kinney had last been seen wearing a pink, orange and white bikini. After she was reported missing, multiple agencies launched a major search across Grayson Lake.
Extensive Search Involved Sonar, Drones and K-9 Teams
Search crews used sonar, thermal detectors, helicopters, K-9 teams, heat-seeking equipment and underwater drones in an effort to locate Kinney.
More than 50 volunteers also joined the search, even as scattered rain showers complicated the effort.
Officials have not publicly explained how Kinney’s body was eventually located.
Her family has been notified, and the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort will determine her cause of death.

Boat Driver Arrested on BUI Charge
The pontoon boat’s driver, Cameron P. Conley, 23, was taken into custody on a boating under the influence charge after Kentucky State Police responded to the search call on Wednesday.
According to reports cited in the source material, a trooper said he smelled alcohol while speaking with Conley and noticed that his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy.
Conley reportedly failed a breathalyzer test and was transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
Authorities have not said whether the charge is directly connected to Kinney’s death.
Restaurant Where Kinney Worked Mourns Her Loss
Smokin’ J’s Rib and Brewhouse, where Kinney worked, announced it would close for two days so staff could mourn.
“The Smoking J’s Family is saddened by the loss of one of our own, Marly Kinney,” the Ashland restaurant wrote in a Facebook post.
The restaurant described Kinney as a “model employee” who was loved by coworkers and friends.
“Always with a friendly smile and a kind word,” the statement said. “She was loved by her fellow coworkers and friends, many who have been volunteering over these last few days.”
The restaurant added that its love and prayers were with Kinney’s family and friends.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Authorities said the investigation into Kinney’s disappearance and death is continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement at 800-25-ALERT, or Kentucky State Police Post 14 at 606-928-6421.
For Kinney’s family, friends and coworkers, the search has ended in heartbreak after days of hope, uncertainty and desperate efforts to bring her home.
