New York prosecutors have officially dropped the remaining rape charge against Harvey Weinstein, bringing an end to the possibility of a fourth trial in the state. The decision came after the alleged victim informed prosecutors that she was no longer emotionally able to testify again following years of repeated court proceedings.
The charge had remained unresolved after Weinstein’s most recent retrial ended without a unanimous jury verdict. Prosecutors emphasized that dismissing the case was not a reflection on the credibility of the accuser but rather a recognition of the personal toll the lengthy legal process had taken on her.
Although this specific rape charge has now been dismissed, Weinstein will remain in prison. He is still facing sentencing in New York for a separate sexual assault conviction and continues to serve a prison sentence related to his California convictions.
The dismissal closes another chapter in one of the most closely watched legal cases of the #MeToo era. While this prosecution has ended, Weinstein’s other convictions and ongoing legal consequences remain in effect.
