Why Kate Always Wears Pale Colors to Weddings
Kate has repeatedly worn cream, yellow, or light blue dresses to royal weddings, leading many to wonder why they could easily be mistaken for the bride’s white dress.

At the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling on June 6th, the Princess of Wales attracted attention with her pale pink Roland Mouret dress worth £750. Under natural light and in many photos, the outfit appeared almost white, sparking debate on social media about whether Kate had inadvertently broken the rule of avoiding white at weddings.
However, according to fashion expert Laura Craik of the Daily Mail, this wasn’t the first time Princess Kate had chosen extremely pale colors for a wedding. She believes this wasn’t intended to attract attention or overshadow the bride, as Kate is already one of the most followed women in the world.
In 2018, when attending the wedding of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan, Kate wore a very pale lemon-yellow Alexander McQueen dress and coat, which looked almost white in many photos. Prior to that, at Zara Tindall’s wedding in 2011 and Emily McCorquodale’s wedding in 2012, she also chose designs in beige, light blue, or cream.
According to Laura Craik, Kate favors these pale neutral tones because they offer elegance, are suitable for summer weddings, and are less likely to go out of style. Furthermore, the Princess of Wales often reuses old outfits, a way to avoid becoming the center of attention on someone else’s big day.
The fashion commentator argues that Kate has no reason to compete for attention with the bride. On the contrary, choosing soft colors reflects the refined and discreet style she has pursued for many years.
Princess Kate’s trend is also believed to have had a significant influence, as many women have begun choosing similar colors for their summer weddings.
