Faizon Love, the beloved actor famous for his roles in films like “Elf” and “Couples Retreat,” has recently faced some serious legal troubles. Released from jail on June 19, the 58-year-old star made headlines during his court appearance, where his attorney revealed his struggles with homelessness and financial difficulties.
Love’s legal woes began when he was arrested on June 16 in Florida’s Hillsborough County for contempt of court, following a declaration-of-paternity case reopened by his ex, Tiffany Lee. Reports indicate that she claims he owes her approximately $250,000 in unpaid child support, a situation that has spiraled into a contentious legal battle.
During the hearing, Lee and her legal team alleged that Love has not made any child support payments in years. They claimed he once told her she “wasn’t going to get a dime” and hinted at stopping work to evade his financial responsibilities.
In stark contrast, Love’s attorney, Glen Lansky, defended him, stating that the narrative being painted by Lee’s team is misleading. Lansky emphasized that Love has been grappling with significant financial challenges and homelessness, asserting that the actor’s current income is insufficient to meet the court-ordered child support of $2,500 per month.
Appearing in court in a wheelchair, Love shared his struggles, revealing that he survives on annual royalties from “Elf,” which amount to about $10,000. Court documents reportedly show that his highest income over the last five years was just $13,000, with his earnings for 2025 listed as $0.

Lansky further disclosed that Love’s recent incarceration caused him to miss out on a scheduled film role, but he remains hopeful about returning to acting and writing. “He has contacts in the business, and hopefully, he’s able to get more gigs,” Lansky stated.
While Love’s attorney noted that he had experienced homelessness, he later clarified that Love is currently living with a friend in California, dispelling any notions that he is without shelter. A judge has set a deadline of July 1 for Love to submit a financial statement confirming his inability to meet the child support obligations.
After the hearing, Lansky expressed satisfaction with the proceedings, stating that he would be taking over all matters related to Love’s case and intends to file a petition to modify the child support payments.
As this story unfolds, many are left wondering what the future holds for Faizon Love and his career. Will he be able to turn things around and reclaim his place in Hollywood?
