Justin Gaethje firmly rejects an immediate rematch with Ilia Topuria.

UFC Freedom 250: Topuria v GaethjeNewly crowned UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has made it clear that he does not believe Ilia Topuria deserves an immediate rematch following their recent title fight.

After scoring a stunning upset victory over the previously undefeated Topuria at UFC White House, Gaethje discussed the matchup during a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. While acknowledging Topuria’s talent and championship-level skills, Gaethje argued that the former champion should earn another title opportunity rather than receive an automatic second chance.

Gaethje pointed to the nature of the fight as a key reason for his stance. He noted that Topuria faced significant adversity during the contest and ultimately failed to finish the fight, with his corner stopping the bout before the final round. According to Gaethje, the result was decisive enough to remove any immediate need for a rematch.

The veteran champion also questioned how Topuria will respond mentally after suffering the first defeat of his professional career. While he believes Topuria can eventually return to title contention, Gaethje feels other contenders should be considered before a rematch takes place.

As discussions continue regarding the next challenger for the lightweight belt, Gaethje remains focused on future opponents and appears unwilling to revisit the rivalry anytime soon.
