An F1 legend just dropped a MASSIVE truth bomb that will tear the Maranello garage apart! 😱🏎️💨 After Lewis Hamilton’s epic comeback, ex-champ Jacques Villeneuve claims Charles Leclerc has been brutally exposed and was never ready for the fight!

Former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has made a bold declaration regarding Ferrari’s championship prospects, stating that the team must prioritize Lewis Hamilton over Charles Leclerc if they hope to contend for the title. Villeneuve’s comments come ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, following Hamilton’s stunning resurgence at the Italian team. The seven-time world champion claimed his first victory for Ferrari at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, a result that has dramatically shifted the internal dynamics at Ferrari and sent a clear message to the paddock.

Speaking on the F1 Show podcast, Jacques Villeneuve discusses the possibility of Lewis Hamilton securing an eighth world title

According to Villeneuve, the narrative surrounding Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has completely flipped. Earlier in the season, Hamilton struggled to adapt to the Ferrari car and was being outscored and outqualified by his younger teammate, Charles Leclerc. Many pundits questioned whether Hamilton had made a mistake by leaving Mercedes. However, after a restructuring of his engineering setup by team principal Fred Vasseur and a strong response to the 2026 regulation changes, Hamilton is now thriving. His dominant victory in Barcelona, where he crossed the line 20 seconds ahead of former Mercedes teammate George Russell, marked the largest winning margin of the 2026 season.

Villeneuve argued that Ferrari now faces a clear decision. While Charles Leclerc was once considered the driver the team had built its project around, back-to-back retirements have opened a 30-point gap between the two Ferrari drivers, with Hamilton leading Leclerc in the standings. Villeneuve stated that Ferrari cannot afford to split resources between two drivers who are separated by such a margin and heading in opposite directions. “Ferrari has to focus on Lewis if they want a small chance of winning,” Villeneuve said, adding that the decision is easy to make because Leclerc is quite far back in the championship.

The former driver also offered a sharp assessment of Charles Leclerc’s career at Ferrari. Villeneuve claimed that Leclerc had been too comfortable, handed a mega contract and a team already structured around him without having to build anything himself. When Hamilton arrived and initially struggled, Leclerc was able to benchmark himself favorably against one of the greatest drivers of all time. However, Villeneuve warned that the moment Hamilton woke up and made the car and team his own, Leclerc was not prepared for that challenge. “The minute Lewis woke up, the minute Lewis made that car and that team his own, and he’s going for it, and doesn’t leave any quarter, Leclerc is not prepared for that,” Villeneuve stated.

The situation is further complicated by the championship picture. Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes currently leads the driver’s championship with 156 points, while Lewis Hamilton sits second on 115 points, a gap of 41 points with 15 races remaining. Villeneuve believes that with Hamilton’s momentum, form, and experience, Ferrari must commit to him now with genuine resources, strategy calls, and priority at the pit wall. Meanwhile, Mercedes must manage the dynamic between George Russell and Antonelli, while Red Bull and Max Verstappen are no longer the dominant force they once were. The Austrian Grand Prix now represents a critical moment for Ferrari to decide whether to fully support Hamilton as their lead title contender.
