In a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 twist to her ongoing legal saga, Mackenzie Shirilla, dubbed the “hell on wheels” killer, has filed a new appeal claiming that a “pre-existing medical condition” may have contributed to her blacking out before a tragic crash that claimed two lives.
The 21-year-old, who is currently serving a sentence of 15 years to life for the 2022 deaths of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and friend, Davion Flanagan, is seeking to overturn her conviction. In a recent appeal submitted to the Ohio Supreme Court on April 27, Shirilla’s new legal team argues that her previous attorneys failed to adequately investigate or present expert testimony regarding her alleged medical condition.
According to reports, Shirilla’s lawyers contend that this undisclosed condition could explain her loss of consciousness while driving at dangerously high speeds. Data retrieved from her Toyota Camry revealed that the accelerator was fully pressed, with the vehicle reaching nearly 100 mph before crashing into a brick building. Notably, there was no indication that she attempted to steer or evade the impending collision.

This latest appeal follows a previous petition that was dismissed by the courts, which involved a peculiar claim of a one-day filing delay attributed to a leap-year calendar error.

Behind bars, Shirilla has reportedly exhibited troubling behavior, including complaints about her lack of access to an iPad and dissatisfaction with the food served in prison. She has also made alarming statements, suggesting that her boyfriend attempted to harm her prior to the crash and even referring to herself as the “third victim” of the incident.

Before the fatal event, Shirilla was reportedly in a volatile relationship with Russo, during which she allegedly threatened to crash the car with him inside. Audio recordings from the scene captured her asking her mother if they could inform the police that she had suffered a medical emergency or seizure.
As her legal battle unfolds, many are left wondering what new revelations might arise in this tragic case.
