Podcaster Jinger Duggar Vuolo is opening up about her approach to parenting and sun protection, saying she does not always apply sunscreen on her children and prefers to let them spend time outdoors naturally.
Speaking on The Jinger and Jeremy Podcast, she discussed her “crunchy” parenting habits with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, and explained that she sometimes avoids using sunscreen when her kids are playing outside for short periods.
“Letting them soak up the sun”
Jinger, who shares three children with Jeremy Vuolo — Felicity, Evangeline, and Finnegan — said she tries to balance sun exposure rather than avoiding it completely.
“I don’t put sunscreen on all the time,” she said on the podcast. “But I definitely try not to use the normal sunscreens. I let them soak up some sun.”
She added that she tends to reserve sunscreen use for situations like long hours at the beach or pool, but not for everyday outdoor play.
“I don’t know if that’s bad or good,” she said. “But I do let them soak up some sun.”
Views on sunscreen and “toxic” concerns
During the conversation, Jeremy Vuolo also referenced concerns he had seen online about sunscreen effectiveness and potential risks, though without citing specific research.
Jinger added that she prefers mineral-based sunscreens such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead of spray versions, which she considers less desirable.
Her comments reflect a broader trend among some parents who describe themselves as “crunchy,” favoring more natural or minimal-intervention approaches to health and childcare.
Medical perspective on sun exposure
Health experts, however, continue to emphasize the importance of sunscreen. Dermatology specialists note that ultraviolet (UV) exposure is a major risk factor for skin cancer, with the American Academy of Dermatology reporting that about 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
Doctors also clarify that modern sunscreens, including mineral-based options, are considered safe and effective when used properly, and that they do not block the benefits of vitamin D production from sunlight.
Other family updates
In the same podcast episode, the couple also discussed a recent incident involving their daughter Felicity, who was taken to the emergency room for an ear infection. Jinger shared that she initially hesitated about using antibiotics and preferred to monitor her condition before proceeding with treatment.
Eventually, the family opted to observe her symptoms, and she reportedly improved without worsening pain.
Jinger Duggar Vuolo and Jeremy Vuolo continue to share family life updates through their podcast and social media, often discussing parenting decisions and lifestyle choices that spark public debate.
