Jill Duggar Dillard is opening up once again about the heartbreaking loss of her daughter Isla Marie, sharing an emotional reflection about grief, healing, and learning to live through both joy and sorrow.
The former 19 Kids and Counting star posted a touching message alongside a photo of herself sitting beside her late daughter’s grave, nearly two years after she and husband Derick Dillard announced they had experienced a stillbirth.
In the emotional Instagram post, Jill described life as “a constant combination of ups and downs, joy and sorrow, roses and thorns,” explaining how grief often hits hardest during quiet moments when memories suddenly return.
She shared how thankful she is to have a special place where she can go to remember Isla Marie and reflect on the love their family still carries for the baby girl they never got the chance to raise.
At the same time, Jill also focused on moments of happiness and healing with her family. She posted photos spending time with her three sons — Israel, Samuel, and Frederick — while baking homemade cinnamon swirl bread and making frozen yogurt treats together.
“So thankful for the recent happy moments too,” Jill wrote, adding that despite the pain of loss, life continues moving forward and there is still beauty in everyday family memories.
Jill and Derick originally revealed the devastating pregnancy loss in April 2024, explaining that Jill was four months pregnant when doctors discovered their daughter had died in utero. The couple shared that Isla Marie had already been deeply loved by the entire family, especially her three older brothers who were excited to meet their baby sister.
Later, on what would have been Isla’s first birthday in August 2025, Jill posted another emotional tribute while visiting the cemetery with her children. She reflected on how different life should have looked, imagining Isla toddling around beside her brothers and becoming part of the family’s everyday chaos and love.
Jill also revealed that after extensive medical testing, doctors believed the most likely cause of the loss was a rare subchorionic hemorrhage that likely could not have been prevented.
Through her openness, Jill has continued using her platform to talk honestly about pregnancy loss, grief, and the emotional struggles many families silently experience.
