Amy Duggar King is opening up about why she’s determined to keep her young son away from the Duggar family following years of disturbing scandals tied to child abuse allegations.
During a recent interview, Amy admitted she “100% regrets” introducing her 6-year-old son Daxton to members of the Duggar family when he was a baby. According to Amy, her son now has little to no connection with that side of the family — and she plans to keep it that way for as long as possible.
“He doesn’t know that side of the family,” Amy explained. “And I will always shield him from that.”
Amy said her biggest priority is protecting her son’s innocence and giving him the safe childhood she feels every child deserves. She described Daxton as happy, social and full of life, adding that she doesn’t want him exposed to the “hard things” connected to the Duggar family’s public scandals.
Her comments come just months after Joseph Duggar was arrested and charged in connection with allegations involving a child. The case immediately reignited public outrage surrounding the Duggar family’s long history of controversy.
The latest scandal also brought renewed attention to Josh Duggar, who previously admitted to molesting multiple young girls — including some of his sisters — before later being convicted on child sexual abuse material charges and sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison.
Amy revealed that those scandals became a major turning point in her life and pushed her to distance herself from the Duggar family and the strict religious culture surrounding them.
She also spoke about questioning the teachings connected to the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), saying she realized she had grown up surrounded by “toxic cycles” that she no longer wanted to normalize.
Now, Amy says her focus is entirely on protecting her son and making sure he grows up in a healthy, safe environment far removed from the controversies that have continued to follow the Duggar name.
