Max B is facing major backlash after making controversial comments about hip hop legend Big Daddy Kane during a recent podcast appearance — and now New York rap heavyweights are stepping in to defend the icon.

The Harlem rapper, who recently returned to the spotlight with a buzzing record alongside French Montana, appeared on Gillie and Wallo’s podcast where the conversation shifted to the greatest rappers to ever come out of New York.
That’s when things went completely off the rails.
Feeling confident after his recent comeback momentum, Max B boldly claimed that after Jay-Z, Nas, and Biggie, he belongs near the very top of the list. But the real controversy started when Big Daddy Kane’s name entered the discussion.
Instead of showing respect to one of hip hop’s pioneers, Max questioned Kane’s relevancy and openly compared his own catalog, influence, and “wave” against the rap legend’s legacy.
At one point, Max argued that many classic rappers only had short runs, while he believes his influence stretched across generations despite spending nearly two decades behind bars.
He even mocked Kane’s longevity, asking where Big Daddy Kane is “right now” and suggesting older artists mostly survive off nostalgia tours overseas.
The comments immediately sparked outrage across hip hop social media.
Fans accused Max B of crossing a line by disrespecting a foundational figure who helped shape New York rap culture long before his era.
The backlash grew even bigger after Max doubled down instead of apologizing.
He later admitted he loved Big Daddy Kane growing up, but claimed the rap icon “lost him” after changing his image later in his career. That explanation only made things worse.
Soon after, several major New York figures publicly defended Kane.
Fat Joe called Max B’s comments “untolerable” and warned him not to disrespect legends who paved the way for artists like him. Joe made it clear that no matter how hot a rapper gets, certain names in hip hop deserve permanent respect.
Tony Yayo also weighed in, reminding Max that Big Daddy Kane’s accomplishments, influence, and longevity speak for themselves. He pointed out Kane’s certified albums, legendary performances, and impact on generations of rappers.
The strongest response may have come from rapper and media personality Mysonne, who passionately defended Kane’s legacy and argued there would be no Jay-Z without Big Daddy Kane’s influence.
According to Mysonne, Kane isn’t just a legend — he’s “the legend of legends.”
He also warned Max B not to underestimate Kane lyrically, claiming the veteran rapper could still outperform many modern artists today.
Despite the backlash, some fans believe Max B was simply trolling for engagement.
Others think prison, his recent musical comeback, and the excitement surrounding his new momentum may have boosted his confidence a little too far.
Still, many hip hop fans agree on one thing: confidence is one thing, but dismissing pioneers like Big Daddy Kane is another.
Big Daddy Kane remains one of the most respected figures in rap history, known not only for his lyricism and stage presence, but also for influencing generations of artists who followed him.
Meanwhile, Max B’s comments have now turned what should have been a celebratory comeback moment into one of the biggest debates currently happening in hip hop culture.
And if this keeps escalating, fans are already wondering whether more rap veterans are about to respond.
