Lewis Hamilton just dropped a bombshell on Ferrari, and according to one F1 insider, the seven-time champion might be playing with fire. After a frustrating Italian Grand Prix, Hamilton didn’t hold back, pointing fingers straight at team boss Fred Vasseur and demanding changes.
The Monza weekend was another rough chapter for Hamilton. A messy early clash with teammate Charles Leclerc left him fighting just to finish sixth, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli stretched his lead to a massive 76 points. The frustration was written all over Hamilton’s face.
“It ultimately comes from the top,” Hamilton said after the race. “It trickles down the decisions, so it starts with Fred. There’s only so much you can say, so much you can push and shout from the mountain top.”
He added bluntly, “We’ve got to change things, because this is not helping us to move forward.”
Those words didn’t sit quietly in the paddock. Veteran F1 journalist Javier Rubio quickly weighed in, suggesting Hamilton may have crossed a line that Ferrari has historically refused to let drivers cross. Rubio pointed out that Ferrari has never liked public criticism, preferring to keep team conflicts behind closed doors.
Rubio recalled how Fernando Alonso faced similar struggles when he tried to pull the team forward during his time at Maranello. “A driver wants to motivate, wants to push, wants to improve, and is somewhat of a leader,” Rubio explained. “But Ferrari has never liked its drivers putting themselves above the team.”
Now all eyes turn to the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. Hamilton reportedly feels supported by Ferrari’s top hierarchy to speak out, but Rubio warns that team boss Vasseur has a tough road ahead.
