I caught my wife begging her ex to give her a chance. She denied it, gaslit me, and then cried when her lies stopped working. She still came back begging after I divorced her. It happened on an ordinary night.

We were watching a movie in her bedroom, and she was texting someone with her phone turned away, which was already unusual. I didn’t think much of it until she left to grab us new drinks. In that tiny window, a notification popped up on her screen from a contact named “Ethel. ” The message read, “Aren’t you married?
”
I didn’t know any Ethel in her life. That message wasn’t something you’d send to someone just catching up. I was tempted to grab her phone right then, but I knew she’d catch me if I did. So, I left it, but I couldn’t enjoy the rest of the movie.
My mind was already spinning. The next day, I finally got a chance to check her phone when she was out tending her garden. I went straight to her conversation with “Ethel. ” The chat had only a couple of messages since the night before, so I scrolled up to understand what prompted that warning.
That’s when I saw her message, “I know we’ve just been catching up so far, but I really miss you. I want you, Ethan, at least one more time, like old times. ”
My blood went cold. She had saved her ex under a woman’s name.
She had reached out to him first. And she was begging him for a chance. I kept scrolling. She had been texting him for nearly two weeks.
It started innocently enough, just catching up, but then she started getting flirty, reminiscing about their past. Lines like, “Is your body still as hot as it was back then? ” and “It’s hard for me to forget about it. ” He was receptive at times, but he never really returned her advances.
In fact, it was Ethan who reminded her she was married. He said, “Aren’t you married? ” and that was what I had seen on the notification. Instead of stopping, she doubled down.
She told him she was drifting apart from me, and that it was only a matter of time before things ended. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. There wasn’t a single thing wrong with our marriage. At least that’s what I thought.
. I took screenshots of everything, saved them to my phone, and waited for her to come back in. When she walked in from the garden, she froze when she saw me holding her phone. Then she tried to play it cool, asking what I was doing.
I told her I had been going through her messages with “Ethel. ” She dropped what she was holding, snatched the phone from my hands, and stood there, panicked, saying nothing. I didn’t say anything either. I wanted her to stew in her uncertaintyrato
Finally, she said, “What did you see?
I think we should talk. ”
I chuckled. “I saw everything. I’d love for you to explain yourself.
”
She told me she had reached out to him to catch up with important people from her past, and that it was some kind of self-help exercise. Then she said talking to him, she remembered what they had been through, and that he was somehow a different person now, no longerthe a-hole she knew before. She said she felt it was a good time to truly forgive him. .
I wasn’t buying a word. I told her I saw her message, “I want you, Ethan, at least one more time, like old times. ” She denied saying it. She kept denying it, trying to convince me I must have misunderstood what I saw.
It was pure gaslighting, and I got visibly angrier the longer she lied to me. I kept insisting I knew exactly what I had read. When she realized her lies weren’t working, she switched tactics. She started crying.
She said it was all her fault, that she was selfish, that she missed how Ethan represented her youth. She said it had nothing to do with me, and that she was the problem. She kept begging me to forgive her, playing the pity card as hard as she could. I felt horrible seeing her like that, but that didn’t mean I was swayed.
I told her to get off the ground because it wasn’t going to move me. What was the point in forgiving her when she admitted I did nothing wrong, and she still tried to cheat on me? She said, “But I didn’t cheat on you in the end. ”
I told her, “No, you only didn’t do it because I caught you.
”
I told her there was no way I could forgive her because she had literally begged him to give her a chance. The same ex she had taught me to hate in solidarity with her. The same ex who had been mature enough to push her away by reminding her she was married. .
That was the part that burned the most. . I told her we were getting divorced, and that there wasn’t any way for her to avoid it. She freaked out.
She kept saying she was sorry, that it was a mistake, that she would never do anything like that again. It didn’t mean anything to me. I told her she could stay in the house until the divorce papers were ready, but once I served her, she had to pack out within the dayrato
I didn’t wait until the next day. I went straight to a divorce lawyer and got the papers ready as fast as possible.
She packed out of the house that same day, moving around in a low mood as if that would change my mind. It only fueled me, to be honestra
The divorce proceedings were relatively peaceful. She kept begging me and apologizing, but I had no reason to listen. I knew there was no future for us after what she had chosen to do.
I brought the best lawyer I could find, and she brought one who my lawyer said was no one to be scared of. I tried to keep us out of court, but she claimed her lawyer was advising her the entire way. He was combative and wanted alimony, which I really didn’t want to concede. We didn’t have kids, so custody wasn’t an issue.
The house was rented, so that wasn’t a headache either. Eventually, things did end up in front of a judge. I made it very obvious she didn’t deserve to be rewarded for wanting to cheat. The judge agreed.
I didn’t have to pay alimony. Regarding the apartment, she wanted it, so I let her have it, but I got back some of the major furniture I had paid forto start me off in my new place. The big annoyance was having to go to court at all. It was a waste of time, and that’s why I had asked her to negotiate.
But she and her lawyer got greedy, and in the end, they got basically nothing. As much as I was happy to be separated from her for good, I was still bitter. We had had a good life, and it didn’t have to be ruined. But she chose to ruin it for her own selfish desires.
I knew I wasn’t going to give her a clean break. So, I decided to be petty and expose her to everyone we knewrator
I sent messages to all of her family members, letting them know the exact reason why we had divorced. I was sure she hadn’t told them the truth, and they deserved to know. Her parents had been so disappointed.
Then I sent the same messages to a few of her close friends, because I had a feeling they didn’t know the full story either. I attached screenshots of the most relevant messages between her and Ethantor each one. A bunch of them reached out to me. Some of her friends didn’t believe she’d ever beg Ethan of all people, but the proof was right there in the screenshots.
Her parents called, too. At first, they were surprised, then their emotions changed to anger. They said I didn’t have the right to expose their daughter like that, especially when I also told her friends. I told them embarrassing their daughter paled in comparison to her destroying our marriage.
Yes, what I did was unnecessary, but so was trying to cheat on your husband with your ex. I thought that would be the last I heard from her. It wasn’t. She still came back to me, and that stunned me.
She said she needed to meet up for something important. I had no business with her anymore, but I was curious, so I agreed. We met in a public place, at a mall food court. She went through initial small talk before saying she wanted to get back together.
I laughed out loud and told her it was too late. She said I should let her speak, so I did. She told me she had made a mistake, that she allowed her emotions and nostalgia to get the better of her. She had eventually met up with Ethan, and he wasn’t as different as she thought he was.
She realized how much she had thrown away for thrill, and that I was the only safe place she had. She missed being with me, and that she knew she messed everything up, but that we could still have a second chance. If I were a weaker man, that might have moved me. But I had moved on from her a long time ago.
I told her she had completely fractured any trust I had in her,and even if I were open to getting back with her,the lack of trust made that impossible. Tears started pouring down her face. She kept saying,“Please,” over and over. It was so desperate,so pathetic, that I had to stand up and leave.
I didn’t want to be the center of attention in a mall food court. That was the last time I saw her, and the last time she reached out to me. I know it would be wishful thinking to hope it’ll be the last time I ever react with her, but for now, I’ll fantasize that it is. I’m just happy to be away from her for good.
I can finally start my life overrato
