Jinger Duggar Opens Up About Postpartum Depression After Baby No. 2: ‘I Could Not Figure Up from Down’

Jinger Duggar Vuolo is getting candid about one of the most difficult periods of her journey into motherhood.

The Counting On alum, 32, recently opened up about experiencing postpartum depression after welcoming her second child, daughter Evangeline, in 2020.

“I remember after having Evie, I had postpartum depression,” Jinger recalled. She said the depression arrived later than she had expected, at a time when she was still nursing her daughter.

Jinger described feeling overwhelmed and unable to manage even everyday responsibilities.

“I was so down. I could not figure up from down, couldn’t clean my house, couldn’t get up much,” she said.

What ultimately helped Jinger recognize that she needed support was the people around her.

She said several friends noticed that something was wrong and encouraged her to seek professional help.

“I thank the Lord I had friends who realized what was happening and they told me, ‘You need to get help,’ ” Jinger said.

Looking back, she said that support was especially important because motherhood brought challenges she had never anticipated.

“That was really good, but there have been so many seasons and trials that I did not expect,” she explained.

Jinger has since become more intentional about taking care of her mental well-being. She said she has learned to focus on finding moments of happiness even during difficult days.

“Now I’m at a place where I’m choosing joy in those days where it doesn’t feel easy,” she shared.

This is not the first time Jinger has spoken openly about the challenges that can accompany pregnancy and the postpartum period.

In June, she answered questions from followers on Instagram about body image and how pregnancy had affected the way she viewed herself.

“Yes, I’ve struggled with body image quite a bit, and honestly pregnancy and postpartum have been some of the harder seasons for me in that area,” she said.

At the same time, she emphasized that the challenges have not changed how she feels about motherhood.

“But at the same time, I would never trade it for the world because bringing these sweet babies into the world is always so worth it in the end,” she added.

Jinger said she tries to maintain healthy habits during pregnancy when possible, while also learning not to be overly hard on herself.

“I’ve learned to give myself grace during those seasons,” she said.

She has also found that small physical routines can make a difference in how she feels after giving birth.

Jinger said she feels more like herself when she is able to return to exercising, even if that simply means taking walks while pushing her baby in a stroller.

Today, Jinger and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, are parents to three children: daughters Felicity Nicole, 7, and Evangeline Jo, 4, and son Finnegan, who was born in March 2025.

Her decision to speak publicly about postpartum depression adds another personal chapter to her evolving conversation about motherhood, mental health and the importance of accepting help when things become difficult.
