Monaco just got a massive upgrade, and one of Formula 1’s biggest stars is already living the high life in its newest neighborhood. Max Verstappen has reportedly moved into Mareterra, a jaw-dropping $2.3 billion district built directly on the Mediterranean Sea.
The Red Bull champion pointed out his exact apartment building during this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, giving fellow drivers Kimi Antonelli, Sergio Perez, and Isack Hadjar a glimpse of his new digs. It turns out Verstappen is one of the first residents of this ambitious project that literally expanded Monaco’s borders.
Mareterra isn’t just any real estate development. It increased the entire principality’s size by three percent, creating luxury apartments, waterfront villas, penthouses, shops, restaurants, and a brand new marina. Prince Albert II commissioned the project back in 2013, with construction finally wrapping up in 2024.
The price tags are as staggering as the concept. According to current listings, the cheapest apartment available in Mareterra will set you back a cool $75. 3 million.
That gets you three bedrooms and four bathrooms in the La Renzo building. Another three-bedroom unit is listed at $89 million.
But the biggest sale so far? Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov reportedly dropped a mind-blowing $546 million on a property earlier this year. That makes Verstappen’s neighbors some of the wealthiest people on the planet.
Verstappen isn’t alone in calling Monaco home. Thirteen of the 22 current F1 drivers are believed to live in the principality, including Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and Charles Leclerc. The list reads like a who’s who of the grid, with stars like George Russell, Oscar Piastri, and Valtteri Bottas also reportedly residing there.
