Jason Duggar and his wife, Maddie, are breaking their silence after Joseph Duggar’s arrest, delivering what may be one of the strongest public statements yet from a member of the Duggar family.
Joseph was arrested on March 18 in connection with allegations involving a 9-year-old girl during a family vacation in 2020. His wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested in connection with separate charges.
As the family continues to face intense public scrutiny, several Duggar siblings have begun addressing the situation. Jason and Maddie’s statement stood out because of its unusually direct language.
Jason and Maddie Condemn the Allegations
In a statement shared on Instagram, Jason and Maddie said they were “shocked, confused, and grieved” after learning about the allegations against Joseph.
The couple expressed particular concern for the child involved, emphasizing that someone vulnerable had allegedly been harmed by a person who should never have hurt them.
“Our hearts are burdened because a child’s life has been turned upside down due to evil actions of someone who should have never hurt the vulnerable,” they wrote.
They went on to say that they were angry about what had allegedly happened and hoped both the legal system and God would deliver justice.
But the strongest part of their statement appeared near the end.
Jason and Maddie asked people to pray for the alleged victim, describing her as brave for coming forward. They also acknowledged the impact the situation could have on Joseph’s children, writing that they now have to confront the loss of a father who was supposed to serve as a spiritual leader in their lives.
The couple concluded with a particularly firm declaration:
“We stand with innocent children. Always.”
Their Words Sparked a Strong Reaction
The statement quickly became a topic of discussion among Duggar critics and followers online.
Some commenters were especially struck by Jason and Maddie’s reference to Joseph’s children potentially losing their father.
One interpretation was that the wording suggested Jason and Maddie might support Joseph’s family distancing themselves from him rather than simply offering unconditional forgiveness.
Others wondered whether the unusually blunt statement could create further tension within the larger Duggar family, particularly between Jason and his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
At this point, however, the statement itself does not confirm any specific family rift.

Jason and Maddie are not the only members of the family to address the allegations.
Jinger Duggar and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, also discussed the situation during their podcast.
Jinger acknowledged how difficult it was to receive such devastating news, particularly because the family had previously experienced another sibling making what she described as “unthinkable choices.”
She spoke about the pain such decisions can cause not only within the family but also to other people affected by them.
For the Duggar family, the latest controversy has therefore become more than a legal battle. It has forced individual family members to publicly confront difficult questions about loyalty, accountability, forgiveness and protecting vulnerable children.
And Jason and Maddie’s statement suggests that, at least publicly, they are choosing to put the alleged victim and innocent children at the center of their response.
