Authorities in upstate New York have released new findings in the investigation into the deaths of six family members discovered inside a Mechanicville home, confirming that the four children were victims of homicide while the two adult women are believed to have died by suicide.
The victims were identified as Harper Harmon, 13; Hudson Harmon, 11; and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon, along with their mother, Sarah Myers, 44, and grandmother, Amy Steadman, 64. The family was found during a welfare check on June 23 after neighbors reported not seeing them for several days.
Police Reveal Updated Findings
Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt confirmed that investigators have determined the four children’s deaths are being investigated as homicides.
According to authorities, one child sustained fatal sharp-force injuries, while investigators believe the remaining three children died after being poisoned. Police also said Myers and Steadman died by suicide before officers discovered the scene. Toxicology testing and additional forensic analysis remain ongoing.
Evidence Found Inside the Home
Investigators previously recovered evidence suggesting intentional poisoning, including prescription and over-the-counter medications found inside the residence.
Police also confirmed that a handwritten note was recovered during the investigation, although officials have not publicly disclosed its contents or explained what role, if any, it may play in determining exactly what occurred.
Custody Dispute Added Another Layer to the Case
The children’s father, Brady Harmon, has said he had been fighting for years to regain contact with his children after not seeing them since 2019.
According to Harmon, a court had recently granted him summer visitation, and he was preparing to reunite with the children just days after they were found dead. He has publicly expressed frustration that the custody process was still unresolved before the tragedy unfolded.
Investigation Remains Active
Although police have released updated findings regarding the manner of death, investigators say the case is not yet closed.
Authorities continue reviewing toxicology reports, forensic evidence, and witness information to establish the complete sequence of events leading to the deaths. Officials have indicated that additional details may be released once the investigation is complete.
