A GRIEVING dad who remarried and rebuilt his life in New York has taken the stand at his ex-wife’s trial for strangling their three children.
Patrick Clancy, 38, entered the courtroom at around 11.45 am on Monday before beginning his highly anticipated testimony.
Lindsay Clancy stared straight ahead as her former husband was brought in.
Prosecutors began by questioning Patrick about his career, how he met Lindsay and the births of their children.
He told jurors that Lindsay struggled to return to work after having their first two children.

Patrick said she suffered from anxiety and found it difficult to separate from the youngsters.
His testimony comes more than three years after Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan were strangled inside the family’s Massachusetts home.
Patrick has since divorced Lindsay, married reproductive specialist Dr Rachel Danis, 37, and moved to Midtown Manhattan.
The Microsoft employee now shares a home with his second wife as he attempts to rebuild following the unimaginable tragedy.
Patrick and Rachel married in April 2026 during an intimate ceremony at the Ladies Pavilion overlooking Central Park’s lake.
Photos have also shown the pair hiking, running and exercising together since at least February 2024.
Rachel works as a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at RMA of New York.
She is also an assistant clinical professor at Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine.
A friend of Rachel’s family said her caring nature had helped Patrick rebuild following the unimaginable loss.
“Pat has obviously gone through an incredible trauma, and Rachel is a nurturing person by nature,” the friend told the Daily Mail.
“She is upbeat, smiling, vivacious, and full of energy. It’s fitting that she helps create life in the face of this tragedy.”
The pal described Rachel as having a “heart of gold” and praised Patrick for refusing to allow the tragedy to destroy the rest of his life.
“A lot of people would recoil and just never be a shadow of their former self and never move on,” the friend said.
“So I admire this guy. I really do.”
Patrick’s father, Christopher Clancy, also praised his son’s strength after watching him endure more than three years of grief.
“Just watch him, he’ll make great things happen,” Christopher told the Daily Mail.
“He’s always been strong like that. All my kids are great, and they were raised right.”
Lindsay’s attorney Kevin Reddington confirmed in court last week that the former couple had divorced and Patrick had remarried.
The revelation came as Patrick’s lawyer asked a judge to protect distressing evidence involving his children from public release.
That material included the children’s autopsy records, crime-scene images and Patrick’s harrowing 911 call.
Jurors will still be permitted to see and hear the evidence inside court, but it cannot be broadcast or released publicly.
Patrick will now be forced to relive the night his children Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan were killed.
Prosecutors say Lindsay asked him to collect takeout food and medication on January 24, 2023.
When he returned to the family’s Duxbury home about 25 minutes later, he discovered Lindsay critically injured outside.
She had allegedly cut her wrists and neck before jumping from a second-floor bedroom window.
Patrick called 911 and was heard asking Lindsay where their children were before she replied that they were “in the basement,” prosecutors said.
He then found all three children with exercise bands around their necks.
“She killed the kids!” Patrick was heard screaming during the emergency call, according to prosecutors.
Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead after being taken to hospital, while Callan died several days later.
Lindsay survived the fall but was left paralysed from the waist down and now uses a wheelchair.
The former labour and delivery nurse does not dispute that she killed her children.
However, her lawyers argue that she was legally insane and suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.
They claim she heard an unrecognisable male voice telling her that it was her “last chance” and that she had to “take them” with her.
Prosecutors reject the insanity defence and say Lindsay carefully planned the killings by sending Patrick out of the house.
They are expected to use her internet searches, journals and actions that day to argue that she understood what she was doing.
Despite the collapse of their marriage, Patrick has repeatedly urged people to show his former wife compassion.
“Please find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” he wrote following the deaths.
He later told The New Yorker: “I wasn’t married to a monster — I was married to someone who got sick.”
Patrick has since channelled his grief into charity work honouring Cora, Dawson and Callan.
He founded the mental health organisation Heard with Love in 2024 in memory of the children.
That same year, he raised approximately $75,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital by running the Boston Marathon.
He has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against some of the medical providers who treated Lindsay before the killings.
The suit claims she was prescribed at least nine medications in the months before the deaths, including eight within three weeks.
Lindsay has filed a separate lawsuit accusing doctors and therapists of failing to properly diagnose and treat her psychiatric illness.
She has remained at Tewksbury Hospital while receiving treatment and awaiting trial.
Patrick returned to Massachusetts to give evidence at the murder trial that will force him to revisit the deaths of his children.
He was called as the prosecution’s first witness following opening statements at Plymouth Superior Court.
He also appears on the defence witness list and is expected to provide crucial evidence about Lindsay’s behaviour and mental health before the killings.
