The tension inside McLaren reached a boiling point at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and it was Oscar Piastri who let his emotions explode in a raw team radio moment that has fans talking nonstop.
Starting from third on the grid after penalties shuffled the order, the Australian rookie shot into the lead at the lights. He looked poised for a statement drive—until everything unraveled in a cascade of bad luck and frustration.
His teammate Lando Norris was convinced he had the pace to win and pleaded for the team to swap positions. McLaren held firm, but the strategy call during Piastri’s first pit stop dropped him right into heavy traffic.
That’s when Williams’ Carlos Sainz ignored blue flags and made contact with Piastri, sending the McLaren driver’s blood pressure through the roof.
“Oh mate, just don’t f***ing talk to me now. Nice of you guys to factor that one in by the way, thanks,” Piastri reportedly said to race engineer Tom Stallard over the radio.
The 𝒹𝓇𝒶𝓂𝒶 didn’t end there. Despite the chaos, Piastri was on track for a one-two finish for McLaren until his gearbox failed on lap 56, forcing his first DNF of the season. Norris cruised to a dominant win, building a 12-second gap before the mechanical issue struck.
Speaking after the race, Piastri admitted his outburst was a spur-of-the-moment reaction. According to Sky Sports, he explained that the hard tire pace was nowhere, he got taken out by a backmarker, and the gearbox sealed his misery. He also acknowledged that his pit stop timing made sense strategically to beat Lewis Hamilton, even if it didn’t work out in the moment.
