After weeks of whispers and one very noticeable absence, a familiar face has quietly returned to the Red Bull garage in Hungary. Paul Monaghan, the engineering mastermind behind Red Bull’s dominant 2023 season, is back — and fans are buzzing.
The 58-year-old engineer, who has been with the team since its founding in 2005, was notably missing from the British Grand Prix. That absence sparked intense paddock chatter, with some sources claiming he was on his way to Cadillac.
Sky F1’s Ted Kravitz, known for keeping an ear to the ground, raised eyebrows when he noted Monaghan’s no-show. “It’s very unusual for him to miss a race,” Kravitz said, adding that the strong belief in the paddock was that he was heading to a different team.
But now, Monaghan has reappeared in Hungary, working inside the Red Bull garage as usual. While his return seems to quiet the loudest rumors, the question of his long-term future at the team hasn’t fully dissolved.
Red Bull has reportedly said he was just taking a race off. Yet, given the team’s recent pattern of losing top engineering talent, the speculation won’t fade easily.
