Joseph Duggar is reportedly dealing with growing anxiety and uncertainty as he prepares to fight serious criminal charges following his release from jail on a $600,000 bond, according to his defense attorney.
Attorney Al Sauline said Joseph has been under tremendous pressure since his March arrest, describing his client as “nervous, anxious and worried” about what lies ahead. The former 19 Kids and Counting star was taken into custody after Florida authorities accused him of lewd and lascivious conduct involving a child under the age of 12. Joseph has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Sauline explained that the intense media attention surrounding the case has only added to the stress. He said Joseph and his legal team are still waiting to review the prosecution’s evidence, noting that they will not have full access to the state’s case until formal filings are completed. Although the defense is aware of the identity of the alleged victim, the attorney said many details remain unavailable as the legal process moves forward.
According to investigators, the charges stem from allegations involving a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020. Authorities allege that Joseph repeatedly encouraged a nine-year-old girl to sit on his lap before later asking her to sit beside him under a blanket, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately. Joseph has denied the accusations and continues to maintain his innocence.
Sauline also claimed that the defense has encountered conflicting information and widespread speculation surrounding the investigation, making it difficult to distinguish verified evidence from rumors circulating publicly. Because of that, he said Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, have been extremely cautious about discussing the case with anyone outside their legal team.
The attorney emphasized that ensuring Joseph receives a fair legal process remains the defense’s top priority. He added that Joseph has received strong support from relatives since returning home to Arkansas after posting bond, saying the encouragement from family has helped him remain positive despite the uncertainty surrounding the case.
Joseph’s legal troubles extend beyond the Florida prosecution. He and Kendra are also facing separate criminal charges in Arkansas involving multiple counts of second-degree child endangerment and false imprisonment. Authorities have stated those allegations are unrelated to the Florida case, and both Joseph and Kendra have entered not guilty pleas.
As the criminal proceedings continue, Joseph remains free on bond under court-imposed conditions while awaiting future hearings. His defense team says it will continue preparing its case as prosecutors move toward trial.
