Newly obtained jail communications reveal that Anna Duggar reached out to her brother-in-law, Joseph Duggar, shortly after his arrest, offering emotional support, practical advice, and assistance for his family during the early days of his incarceration.
According to email records obtained by Us Weekly from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas, Anna contacted Joseph on March 21, just days after his March 18 arrest.
In her message, Anna told Joseph that she and her family were praying for him and offered to help in any way possible. She also said she believed she had placed money into his jail commissary account and offered to assist with arranging phone or video calls so he could communicate with his wife, Kendra.
Anna also cautioned Joseph against discussing legal matters through the jail’s communication system, reminding him that emails, phone calls, and video conversations are monitored and may be reviewed by prosecutors. She advised that any legal discussions should take place only in the presence of an attorney.
Joseph was arrested in Arkansas after being accused of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a child in Florida in 2020. Authorities allege the victim, who was 9 years old at the time and is now 14, reported that Joseph later apologized before the alleged incidents stopped. Court records also show Joseph later faced additional charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and false imprisonment in a separate matter. His wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested on those unrelated charges before being released on bond.
Anna, whose husband Josh Duggar is currently serving a federal prison sentence following his 2022 conviction on child sexual abuse material charges, appeared to draw from her family’s experience with incarceration when offering advice. She asked Joseph about his housing situation inside the jail, saying that Josh’s previous stay at the same detention facility had been relatively safe. She encouraged him to report any concerns about his health or safety and mentioned that commissary purchases often involve a waiting period.
She also expressed sympathy for Kendra, writing that she had spoken with her by phone and was impressed by her composure despite the difficult circumstances. Anna described Kendra as deeply devoted to her husband and heartbroken over being unable to see their children for an extended period. She praised Kendra’s strength and faith, expressing hope that the family would eventually overcome their legal challenges.
Joseph later replied to Anna’s message, thanking her for her prayers and financial assistance. He also asked whether she could help Kendra establish an email account so they could communicate while he remained in custody.
The emails provide a glimpse into how members of the Duggar family have remained in contact following Joseph’s arrest while his legal proceedings continue.
