Although Kate received a resounding round of applause when she arrived to watch the Wimbledon men’s final, her biggest fan was probably her daughter, Princess Charlotte, sitting right beside her.
On the afternoon of July 14th, Kate appeared with her daughter at Wimbledon, marking a rare public appearance during her cancer treatment. As she took her seat in the front row of the Royal Box to watch the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, the Princess of Wales received a warm welcome.
Almost the entire audience rose to their feet and applauded Kate’s arrival. The applause lasted for nearly a minute, until Kate, Princess Charlotte, and her sister Pippla Middleton settled into their seats.
The resounding applause not only deeply affected Kate but also her daughter. Seeing her mother still standing, smiling, and waving to the audience, Princess Charlotte looked at Kate with a radiant face, beaming with pride and emotion.
Karwai Tang, the photographer who captured this sweet moment, shared with People magazine: “Every time Kate comes down the steps and into her seat, she usually doesn’t stand up and wave. But this time she stood for a moment and took in all the affection. The fact that she took it in and received the applause was very special.”
“She looked no different than she did at previous Wimbledon appearances. The enthusiastic applause and cheers from the public as the princess and her daughter entered were a wonderful show of support for her. Wimbledon held its breath waiting for Kate to appear, and she was there.”
In addition, Tang also captured another touching moment between Kate and Charlotte after the little girl and her aunt Pippa returned to their seats after the halftime break. “Charlotte jumped down the steps and when she returned to her seat, she was grinning from ear to ear. She turned to her mother and must have told her something that had just happened, and they both giggled happily,” the photographer said.
For many years, William and Kate have been regulars at Wimbledon. In recent years, they have started introducing their children to the main summer sport. Last year, William and Kate took both George and Charlotte to watch the Wimbledon final. This year, because William and George went to Germany to watch the Euro 2024 final, Kate and Charlotte attended the tennis tournament alone.
