Josh Duggar has been transferred to another federal facility, and his attorney is accusing prison officials of unfairly moving the former reality star between facilities as a form of punishment.
Duggar, who is currently serving a more than 12-year federal sentence following his 2021 conviction for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, was recently moved to the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City.
The transfer comes after a series of moves that have placed him in multiple federal facilities over a relatively short period of time. Before arriving in Oklahoma, Duggar spent time at FMC Fort Worth in Texas after previously being housed at FCI Seagoville, where he began serving his sentence.
According to Duggar’s attorney, Beau Brindley, the repeated transfers are not routine but are instead “punitive” actions connected to complaints Duggar made about alleged prison violations.
Brindley claims the issues began at FCI Seagoville, where he alleges correctional officers improperly handled Duggar’s legal mail. The attorney says Duggar raised concerns about the alleged violations during a court hearing, and shortly afterward, prison staff informed him that he would be transferred.
The lawyer also claims prison officials interfered with Duggar’s approved contact list, allegedly deleting names of people he was permitted to communicate with regularly. According to Brindley, the move affected Duggar’s ability to contact certain individuals.
The Bureau of Prisons has not confirmed the reason behind Duggar’s transfer, stating that inmate transfer details are not publicly discussed due to security concerns.
The latest move places Duggar at a federal transfer facility, meaning his stay there may only be temporary. FTC Oklahoma City is typically used to process inmates before they are assigned to a long-term federal prison.
Duggar’s prison journey has included several changes since he was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison after being convicted in 2021. He was later transferred from his original placement at FCI Seagoville to other facilities, with his legal team continuing efforts to challenge aspects of his incarceration.
The former star of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” has maintained legal battles while behind bars, including appeals related to his conviction. However, his conviction remains in place, and he is currently scheduled to remain incarcerated until 2033.
