Leon Black Ordered to Return Under Subpoena After Epstein Hearing Turns Contentious.

Congressional Panel Investigating Epstein Subpoenas Leon Black in Unusual Escalation - The New York TimesBillionaire investor Leon Black appeared before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, but the closed-door interview ended in controversy after he declined to answer several key questions. Committee members said his refusal centered on inquiries involving nondisclosure agreements and other matters related to Epstein’s network.

Following the interview, Chairman James Comer issued subpoenas requiring Black to return for sworn testimony and to produce documents requested by lawmakers. The committee said the additional legal action was necessary to obtain information it believes is important to its ongoing investigation.

Black has repeatedly denied any involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities, maintaining that the millions of dollars he paid Epstein were solely for tax and estate planning services. He also denied allegations that he participated in or knew about any sex trafficking or abuse connected to Epstein.

Lawmakers from both parties described the interview as frustrating and said they intend to continue examining the financial relationships and agreements surrounding Epstein’s associates. Black is expected to testify again under oath at a later date as the congressional investigation moves forward.
