One of the NFL’s rising young defensive stars is now at the center of a major criminal case. Terrion Arnold, a 23-year-old cornerback for the Detroit Lions, has been arrested in Florida on multiple felony charges tied to an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery that prosecutors say was carried out in retaliation for a theft earlier this year. If convicted, Arnold could face life in prison.

According to the Tampa Police Department, Arnold turned himself in to authorities on June 24 after investigators concluded he was the “primary conspirator” behind a targeted attack that occurred on Feb. 4 in Tampa. He has been charged with four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery.
Police Allege Attack Was Planned After Airbnb Theft
Investigators say the case began several days before the alleged attack, when Arnold rented an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, where he was staying with friends.
Authorities said more than $250,000 worth of cash and personal belongings was stolen from the property. Arnold reportedly believed two of the eventual victims were responsible, although investigators later determined they had no involvement in the theft.
Rather than ending there, prosecutors allege the situation escalated into a carefully coordinated retaliation.
Police claim Arnold and several associates directed two women to lure one of the victims to an apartment in Tampa. When the victims arrived shortly after midnight, they were allegedly ambushed by armed suspects hiding inside a bedroom closet.
Victims Allegedly Held at Gunpoint and Beaten
According to investigators, the three victims were held at gunpoint, physically assaulted and robbed during the attack.
Police allege one of Arnold’s co-defendants livestreamed the assault while Arnold and others traveled to the apartment. Detectives also say they recovered group chat messages in which Arnold allegedly gave instructions during the incident.
Authorities further claim Arnold later arrived at the apartment and directed others to enter while the robbery was still underway. The victims were eventually forced out of the residence after having personal belongings stolen. Investigators reported they suffered visible injuries consistent with being beaten and pistol-whipped.
Six other suspects had already been arrested before Arnold surrendered to authorities. Prosecutors say the investigation identified him as the alleged organizer of the crime.
Arnold Denies All Allegations
Arnold’s representatives have strongly denied the accusations.
In a statement provided to PEOPLE, his management team said there is “no credible evidence” connecting the NFL player to the crimes and argued prosecutors are relying heavily on testimony from convicted individuals who may be attempting to reduce their own sentences.
His attorney also maintained that Arnold “had no involvement whatsoever” in the alleged offenses and said his client looks forward to clearing his name in court.
Judge Orders NFL Player Held Without Bail
During his initial court appearance, a Florida judge ordered Arnold to remain in custody without bond pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutors are expected to argue that he should continue to be held while the criminal case proceeds. The charges Arnold faces are classified as dangerous first-degree felonies under Florida law and each carries the possibility of a life sentence if he is convicted.
The Detroit Lions acknowledged the situation in a brief statement, saying the organization is aware of the legal matter but would not comment further because of the ongoing proceedings. The NFL also confirmed it is monitoring the case.
Arnold was selected by Detroit in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after starring at the University of Alabama. He appeared in 24 NFL games over his first two seasons before injuries limited his playing time during the 2025 campaign.
The criminal case remains in its early stages, and Arnold is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
